Greetings!
"The only lifelong, reliable motivations are those that come from within, and one of the strongest of those is the joy and pride that grow from knowing that you've just done something as well as you can do it." Lloyd Dobyns and Clare Crawford-Mason, Thinking About Quality
What is your motivator or as David Giwerc says what is your gas pedal that makes your brain and your body get up and go.
Motivation is different for each person mine is different from my husbands, both my grandsons motivators right now are match box cars and we are still tying to figure out the motivator for our 29 year old.
-
What motivates you?
-
What would make you jump out of bed in the morning?
-
How do you find your motivation?
-
Does it change?
-
When you find it does it always work for you?
-
When does the motivation work?
-
When doesn't motivation work for you and why?
If you can answer those questions for yourself you are off and running the race 2 laps ahead of the pack. If you can not answer what motivates you take some time to think about them and see what you come up with? Sharing it with the significant people in your life may make life a lot easier.
Here is to finding your gas pedal.

Do you tell people what time it is or do you tell them how to make a watch?
This is a phrase that one of my clients uses and I find that it is a great visual for those with ADD to ask am I giving to much detail, more information than this person wants or needs?
Some people like myself use few words and don't give enough detail and then there are those on the other extreme that tell you what color the wall paper was in the Dr. office. So how do you find a balance?
You might ask your self these questions to help:
- Would my mom or spouse want me to give this much detail?
- Did I answer the who, what, where and when?
- Is there something I shared that I will regret later?
- Would I be better speaking it than writing it or vice versa?
- If you are writing an e-mail, letter, or paper write a sloppy copy go back and read it after letting it sit for at least 2 hours and then edit.
When in doubt hit the pause button, stop your self take a few deep breaths. By stopping and breathing it will slow down your speech and your mind so whether speaking or writing it will always serve you well.
That's what time it is.

| Time to be Australian and take a walk about? |
|
|
Spring is here lets get off the couch and walk at least 3 times a week for 40 minutes.
As I have said before ADHD people need green time. Time outdoors to calm and slow down your brain and get grounded.
It easy its cheap and more fun with a friend.
You can do some great thinking as you walk. See you on the sidewalk! |

Spring Cleaning |
|
|
What is it that gets you in the mood to do some spring cleaning?
- Nature renewing itself?
- Green grass and new plants?
- Finally winter is over you want to be outside?
- The need to be like the birds and create a new fresh nest?
Whatever it is now is the time to do the shedding and cleaning. Now before spring summer sports get in full swing. Now while it is the in between time if you live in the northern half of the country or before it gets to hot in the southern part of the country.
So what are the next steps.
- Pick one project at at a time and tackle it as a family (might use chore wars to get kid motivated)
- Doing it as a family to make the time go faster
- Family acts as your body double to keep you on track
- Put a time limit on the project (work for 1 hour and break before you continue again or pick it up again the next day)
- You can have a family reward when your are done (movie night, dinner out or order take-out, DQ treats)
- Hire kids that are earning money for camp to do some of the work.
- You might find a way to generate some extra cash in the process (i.e. garage sale, consignment store, e-bay)
- Give everyone a specific task to do
- Break the tasks down into small pieces (only rake the front yard instead of the whole yard)
Write down all the spring cleaning you would like to have done. Decide which you will hire out to be done by someone else, which one you want to do alone, and which ones the family can do together.
