Suwanee Student Council News
Hi, my name is Jessica.  I'm a member of the student council. It is my turn this week to write a little about our trip to North Gwinnett High School for the American Education Week Breakfast.  We listened to people talk about the North Gwinnett Community.  It was a very interesting trip.  After that, we left.  It was an awesome field trip.

Student Council helps Toys for Tots

Collection Dates November 29th - December 3rd

This year our Student Council will help the North Gwinnett High School DECA club support the Toys for Tots program. "The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year and distribute those as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted" The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.

This year we will have a competition to see which grade level donates the most toys! Students may bring in unwrapped toys to drop off in collection boxes in their classroom the week of November 29 through December 3. Our goal this year is to collect over 300 toys!

This year the City of Suwanee's annual Caboose Lighting will be held on Friday, Dec. 3 with events beginning at 6:30pm in downtown Suwanee. Singers from the four North Gwinnett Cluster elementary schools will share songs of the holiday season beginning with Suwanee Elementary on stage at 6:30 and followed by Roberts, Riverside and Level Creek. There will be hot chocolate and s'mores on the basketball court and a vendor selling hot dogs and other food if anyone is looking for food to eat. Santa will be available for photos at the pavilion once he arrives and some crafts will be available to make. Mark your calendar and plan to come for this wonderful family Suwanee tradition!

Curriculum & Instruction from the Assistant Principal

I hope that everyone enjoyed the Holiday Break last week and that it proved to be a time of thanksgiving and celebration of family. We have a busy three weeks coming up prior to our big winter break. The week of December 6th our individual classes will be celebrating the Holiday season with classroom parties. In addition, we will be administering the Post Test 2 Benchmark testing prior to winter break. This test measures student understanding of the second 9 weeks AKS. Language Arts, Reading and Math will be assessed in Grades 1 and 2. Language Arts, Math, Reading, Social Studies and Science will be assessed in Grades 3 - 5. This assessment tool allows teachers to track individual student progress and modify/differentiate instruction accordingly.

 Counselor's Corner

Dear Suwanee Family,

In addition to educating the children of our community, our school is also sensitive to other needs a family might have during this time of year.   There is a winter wonderland of  snowmen on the bulletin board next to the clinic. Each snowman on the board represents  the need of a  Suwanee student or their family. If you would like to help a family in need at Suwanee Elementary, please pick a snowman off the board, buy the item or gift card, and return the item(s) to the counseling  department  unwrapped by December 10, 2010. Thank you for your continued support  of our community!
