Dear Suwanee Families,
Please be reminded that we will have early release this week. All students will be dismissed at 12:15 on Wednesday and Thursday to ensure parents and teachers adequate time to discuss student progress. Please plan on attending your scheduled conference to find out about the wonderful teaching and learning taking place in your child's classroom this year. You may also take this opportunity to meet with Special Area teachers and or our school counselor should you feel the need. Simply send an email to the desired Special Area Teacher /Counselor to determine availability.
Kudos to the faculty and staff for exceeding academic benchmarks on the GCPS Weighted School Assessment(WSA). We celebrate our third grade teachers for increasing the number of students performing at Level 3 in Mathematics and fourth grade teachers for achieving a perfect score of 5/5 in all core curriculum areas on the WSA. Suwanee is ranked number 6 out of all elementary schools in the district as a result of the hard work demonstrated by all faculty and staff at Suwanee. Way to go Suwanee!!!!
We would like to hear your feedback regarding how we are doing as a school as we strive to be the number 1 school in the district! Parent Perception Surveys are available via the parent portal this year. We are very excited about the opportunity to hear feedback from our entire parent community regarding our school. The survey will be active until midnight on Friday, Dec. 10th. Parents who log on to the Portal during this period of time will see a pop-up window that invites them to take the survey. If you do not have the Parent Portal, you may come to school and use the computers in the lab to participate in the parent survey. Michael Robbins, our TST, will assist you with this process should you require any support taking the survey. We would like to hear from everyone!
Warmly,
Dr. Kimberly M. Smith

Who they are and what they do: School psychologists are highly trained professionals in both psychology and education. They serve our schools and communities by providing evaluative, consultative, and intervention support to school staff and parents for all students. They strive to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. They collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments for all students that strengthen connections between home and school. School psychologists have the vision of all students being intellectually, personally, and socially prepared to take advantage of life's opportunities.

Suwanee Student Council News
Hi, I am going to tell you some stuff about what is happening at Suwanee Elementary School. We have been collecting pop tops, which raises money for the Ronald McDonald House. If you don't know what the Ronald McDonald House is, it is a place that helps kids that are sick. Soon enough, Toys For Tots is coming to our school.

Counselor's Corner
Dear Suwanee Family,
In addition to educating the children of our community, our school is also sensitive to other needs a family might have during this time of year. Beginning November 9th, there will be a winter wonderland of snowmen on the bulletin board next to the clinic.
Each snowman on the board represents the need of a Suwanee student or their family.
If you would like to help a family in need at Suwanee Elementary, please pick a snowman off the board, buy the item or gift card, and return the item(s) to the counseling department unwrapped by December 10th, 2010.
Thank you for your continued support of our community!

Skate Night is Tuesday night 6:30 - 8:30 PM at Skate Country in Buford.

Our next Business Partner Spirit Night will be on Wednesday, November 17 at Chick-fil-A. While sales all day long count toward our fundraiser (be sure to tell them you are supporting Suwanee Elementary in the store or at the drive-thru for breakfast, lunch, or dinner), we will also have a special theme event that night in the store from 5-8PM. Details will be announced next Monday.
Thanks for your support of our Cici's Pizza night on Election Day. Based on the vote we took that night, Pepperoni was voted in as "Suwanee Elementary's Favorite Pizza Topping." Surprisingly popular were Noodle pizza and Veggie pizza, but Pepperoni won by a large margin. Thanks for taking part.
Earning for Learning - Promotion #2
Which Teacher(s) will be "Rolled" at the Jaguar Jive? Let's see which Grade Level rules the school with E4L Label Collection. Here is how it works:
- Each grade level has at least one teacher who has volunteered to be "rolled" with toilet paper (aka turned into a mummy) at the Jaguar Jive on February 25, 2011. These teachers will be featured on grade level boxes that will be at the school starting on Monday, November 8. The teacher(s) representing the grade level that collects the most labels at the end of the promotion wins.
- Students will place labels into boxes that are designated for each grade level starting on 11/8/10.
- All labels turned into each box (BoxTops, Campbell's, Tyson's) will be counted toward the teacher count.
- Anyone may turn labels into any box they choose - they don't have to "vote" for their grade level teacher(s).
- Students have the opportunity to earn toilet paper rolls and take part in rolling the winning teacher. If a student turns in 25 labels (or more) at a time into a box and that teacher ends up winning, that student will earn a roll of toilet paper to help roll the teacher. Students may earn multiple entries for each group of 25 labels they turn in. To qualify they must place at least 25 unexpired BoxTops labels in a baggie or envelope labeled with their name, teacher, and grade level on it and that teacher must be selected as the winning teacher on February 18.
- Labels may be turned in individually. They should only be turned in via a labeled baggie or envelope if that student has 25 or more labels and wants to qualify to help roll the teacher.
- The promotion will start on Monday 11/8/2010 and will conclude on Friday 2/18/11. Status updates will be provided a few times during the promotion.
- Please submit labels that have not expired - expired labels will not be counted.
The teachers who will be featured on each grade level box are:
Mrs. Anderson - Kindergarten
Mrs. Aguirre and Mrs. Dienhart - 1st
Mrs. Hamilton - 2nd
Mrs. Lee and Mr. Singleton - 3rd
Mrs. Lorenz - 4th
Mrs. Thomas - 5th |
