Parents,

Wednesday and Thursday, November 10 & 11, are early-release days. All students will be dismissed at 12:15 on these days. If your child rides a bus, they may arrive home as early as 12:30 p.m. If you need to make alternate afternoon transportation arrangements for one or both of these days, please send in a note to your child's teacher. Due to the early dismissal time, our lunch schedule will be different from the normal schedule. Please remember: No one can check out your child without your prior written permission. Children who accompany parents to conferences should remain with their parents during the conference; the playground will not be open or supervised during this time.

Proud to be your Principal,

Dr. Kimberly M. Smith

National School Psychology Awareness Week - November 8 - 12, 2010

Who they are and what they do: School psychologists are highly trained professionals in both psychology and education. They serve our schools and communities by providing evaluative, consultative, and intervention support to school staff and parents for all students. They strive to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. They collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments for all students that strengthen connections between home and school. School psychologists have the vision of all students being intellectually, personally, and socially prepared to take advantage of life's opportunities.

THE "GIST" OF IT

From Michael Maier, Suwanee's School Psychologist

Dear Suwanee Elementary family,

In honor of School Psychology Awareness Week, I am announcing that I will be taking the Polar Plunge along with a team of other school psychologists-we'll be jumping into Lake Lanier in mid-winter! We are doing this to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics Georgia. If you would like to make a donation, get involved, or learn more about it, please feel free to get in touch with me and/or visit http://firstgiving.com/michaelpaulmaier.

Curriculum & Instruction from your Assistant Principal

We are very excited about two great after school opportunities for Suwanee ES students. Our popular SOAR program will begin this Thursday, November 4th and continue until Winter Break. We have 80 students registered to take advantage of some exciting enrichment opportunities such as preparing after school snacks, beginning guitar and arts and crafts. In addition, our new Kids 2 Kids tutoring program began last week with a great response. Third Grade Students worked together on Math, Social Studies, Reading and Science CRCT practice tests. Kudos to the PTA Dad's Club for a great program.

Mary Robida, Assistant Principal
