PTA Fundraiser
 CogAT Testing September 21-23, 2010 Grades 1, 3, & 5 |
|
Dear Suwanee Families,
Thank you to everyone for attending the Boosterthon Fun Run on Friday. The students and staff had an outstanding time. I would like to acknowledge and thank our PTA for bringing this outstanding fund raising opportunity to Suwanee and all of the parents that attended the run. I would also like to acknowledge Lesley Poole for her hard work and tireless dedication to ensuring that this was a polished event from start to finish. Kudos to Lesley, we appreciate all that you do for Suwanee students!!!!!
Our first, third and fifth grade students will participate in the Cognitive Abilities Test this week from 8:15 to 11:30am. Students will be assessed on September 21, 22, and 23. The CogAT is an assessment that measures students' verbal, quantitative and nonverbal reasoning abilities; therefore it is not a test that the students can study for. The best way to help your student prepare for the CogAT is to ensure that they go to bed early and eat a balanced breakfast. We ask that you make every effort to get your child to school on time. Students that arrive after the start of the test will not be able to participate with their class. Late arrivals will participate in a make up testing session held later in the day/week. I'm confident that Suwanee 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade students will do very well on the CogAT!
I would also like to inform you that we are currently under our projected student enrollment. As a result, our administrative team made several difficult staffing decisions. These decisions include closing a Kindergarten classroom and downsizing staff in our PE department. Schools with an enrollment count of 750 earn a full-time and part-time counselor; however, our student enrollment is 737 and we did not earn a part time counselor. Mr. Larry Higdon, our part time counselor, retired last week and I'm pleased to announce that he will be volunteering at Suwanee to work with our children. Melissa Sanford, joined the Roberts Elementary staff as a first grade teacher and Kym Najafi, our PE paraprofessional, will be joining the staff of Rock Springs ES as a Pre-K paraprofessional. We will truly miss Ms. Sandford and Ms. Najafi, however, I know they both will do well at their new schools. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions regarding our staffing plan or current enrollment.
I'm looking forward to another outstanding week of TEACHING and LEARNING at Suwanee Elementary School... where all students are LEADERS!!!!
Warmly,
Dr. Kimberly M. Smith |
