 From the Principal's Desk
Dear Suwanee Parents,

I would like to extend my congratulations to Shruthi Santhanam and her parents. Shruthi was a finalist in the 49th Annual Statewide Spelling Bee, held at Georgia State University on Friday. Shruthi won the Gwinnett County Spelling Bee and the Georgia Association of Educators (GAE) District 3 Spelling Bee earlier this year. Friday, she spelled 14 challenging words correctly before becoming eliminated for misspelling "latency". Shruthi correctly spelled "flotilla", "antibiotic", "mantilla", "seltzer", "vulcanize", "capitulation", "magnanimous", "arachnid", "blitzkrieg", "ersatz", "apartheid", "ingenue", " schottische", and "ergonomist". Suwanee Elementary School is proud of Shruthi and her accomplishments. This is just the beginning for Shruthi, who is an outstanding student academically and socially!

We would also like to congratulate Mrs. Meredith, Suwanee ES Fine Arts Teacher, on the birth of her daughter Eloise, born Saturday morning.

Please pay close attention to the important calendar events listed below. Thanks for all that you do to support Suwanee Elementary School.

Warmly,

Dr. Kimberly Smith

 CAMP INVENTION

Suwanee Elementary has been selected as one of the schools to host the Camp Invention program in Gwinnett County.  Camp will be held from 8:00am - 4:00pm the week of July 12-15.

* Regular cost is $210, but all registrations received before March 31, 2010 qualify for an early registration rate of $185 for a $25 savings!  In addition, monthly installment payments are available at no additional cost for all registrations paid by credit or debit card.  The $50 non-refundable deposit will be billed as your first monthly installment, and your remaining balance will be split into two subsequent monthly payments.  To receive this special rate or the installment payment plan, you must submit your registration before the March 31, 2010 deadline.

Camp Invention is a week-long adventure that fosters inventive-thinking skills, science literacy, history and the arts in five activity-oriented modules. In the Create program, children return home from an alien planet, green up and rebuild a polluted town, and build miniature amusement parks.  In this program, younger children create fantasy inventions while older children work in teams to build complicated, multi-step machines that solve a challenge! Directed and taught by our local teachers.

This camp will feature a curriculum called Create, including the below activities:

Problem Solving on Planet ZAK ®

Crash-land on an alien planet! Use innovative thinking to assemble protective clothing, assess the weather, and survive this strange environment.

Saving Sludge City™

It's up to you to green up and rebuild this polluted town. Create clean landfills, invent vehicles that won't pollute the air, and reinvent Sludge City!

Imagination Point: Ride Physics™

Design cool rides for an amusement park. Discover the science behind your very own model roller coasters and daredevil rides!

I Can Invent III™

Take apart a broken machine and see what's inside. Younger children will create fantasy inventions, while older groups will work on a team Rube Goldberg challenge that creates a "mini-explosion."

Global Games™

Explore cultures from around the world by discovering the link between ancient games and those we play today. Then add your own twist and get ready to play!
