November 9, 2009                      Volume 3 Issue 13
 From the Principal's Desk

Dear Parents,

We are so excited about the Scholastic Book Fair. I hope you plan on taking advantage of the opportunity to view our amazing selection of books available for purchase.  In addition to purchasing a great book for yourself or your child, you will be reinforcing the importance of reading. Reading with your TESTchild each night can significantly impact their academic achievement and improve many skills. Reading with your child also sends the message that reading is a valuable and rewarding activity.

Thank you in advance for supporting our Book Fair this week, we can't wait to see you!

Warmly,

Dr. Kimberly Smith

Curriculum & Instruction from the Assistant Principals

beeWe will be holding our classroom Spelling Bees for 4th and 5th grade students over the next 2 weeks.  The 1st and 2nd place winners from each 4th and 5th grade class will be submitted to our Spelling Bee Coordinator, Mrs. Valerie Munson.  They will compete in our local School Spelling Bee competition on Thursday, January 14, 2010, at 8:30 a.m.  The local School Spelling Bee will be held in our Media Center.

Our third grade classes are currently working on their 3rd grade writing assessment.  This writingassessment will take place over the next few months.  Students are preparing for this assessment daily during their classroom instruction.  Teachers will be collecting student writing samples for each student's portfolio through February, 2010.  The portfolios will be assessed and student scores will be reported in March, 2010.

For me, writing is exploration; and most of the time, I'm surprised where the journey takes me.

Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair is going on in the media center this week. We will open at 7:45 every morning. Only students with parents will be allowed to shop from 7:45 to 8:15 each morning. From 8:15 to 8:45 would also be a great time for parents to shop since students will be engaged in CQI time in their classrooms.
If you are not an early bird, then please come by after school. We will be open until 4:00 on Monday and Thursday, until 5:00 on Tuesday and Wednesday, and we will close early on Friday at 2:00.
The book fair provides our media center with new books, Accelerated Reader tests, audiovisual equipment, supplies, prizes for students and so much more. We appreciate your support!
