"The footprint means something to me now."
~ a Life Centers client last week
"I've been coming here [to Life Centers] a long time for help. My counselor was always there for me. We used to pray together a lot. [This year] I came in again because I was considering having an abortion, like I had had in the past. I thought I would not have a job to come back to if I decided to have the baby...and that's scary. There are so many people who tell you to get rid of it - even your family and friends. It was confusing for me.
"Even when the counselor knew I had had an abortion, she still was nice to me. I kept receiving anonymous cards in the mail from the center. It was a little bit encouraging. Nobody knew who they came from, but I knew. I decided I couldn't have another abortion. I wasn't going to kill a baby again. It didn't make sense. You can't choose which life to keep and which one to give up. I repented of that. I thought, I gotta start doing the right thing.
"Despite all that I was going through, I decided to keep the baby, and I'm glad that I did. I was scared to touch him at first. He was so small. He's a week old now.
"I used to come in every couple of weeks to get diapers. It really made a difference. People always treat you nice here [at Life Centers]. They don't judge you. Now I have a job and a husband and don't need as much of the services as I used to. But I still need some things.
"The footprint means something to me now. Those prints...they have meaning. This baby ain't no mistake. I just hope to do things the right way and raise him the right way."
