We would like to continue sharing with you photos of some of the people, places, and things we encountered in Chicago during the Sixth NAREA Summer Conference. The August eNewsletter features photos from the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award, highlights from a few of the schools visited during the tour of schools and photos of some of the presenters of the breakout sessions.

| 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award Winner --
Carolyn Pope Edwards | | Every year, NAREA honors an individual or organization for contributions to the field of early childhood education and advocacy for the rights of children, families, and educators. The 2010 recipient of the NAREA Lifetime Achievement Award is Carolyn Pope Edwards. Carolyn is the Willa Cather Professor at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln NE, teaching in the departments of Psychology and Child, Youth, and Family Studies. She is a noted author and editor of many books and articles analyzing relationship-building practices in the infant-toddler centers and preschools in northern and central Italy. This award was presented to Carolyn at a special ceremony on Friday, June 25th during the Sixth NAREA Summer Conference in Chicago.

The Sixth NAREA Summer Conference in Chicago--
Tour of Schools | |
In collaboration with Reggio Children and Crossroads in Chicago*,
NAREA hosted the Sixth Summer Conference on June 24th and 25th with a program focusing on
Dialogues for Quality in Education--"Our Image of Children,
Our Image of Teachers, Our Image of Learning, Our Responsibility"
The very popular Tour of Schools took place on June 23rd. Each participant was able to visit three of the six participating Crossroads schools:
Chicago Commons: Nia Family Center, Paulo Freire Center, and Taylor Center
Christopher House: Logan Square
Chicago Public Schools: Belmont-Cragin ECC and Velma Thomas ECC
Photos were taken by our staff during their visits to the two schools on their route--Belmont-Cragin and Nia Family Center. We are sorry that we do not have photos from all of the schools participating on the Tour of Schools, but we hope that there will be some submitted for the September eNewsletter.

Chicago, Illinois 60605 Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m.,
Thursday from 12:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 5 p.m.

Innovations in Early Education: The International Reggio Exchange
| The summer 2010 issue of Innovations, v. 17. n. 3, will be published in early September 2010 and will focus on multiculturalism and social justice with article by Deana Margini and Karen Haigh.
