| Spreading the message to "Shop Local First" | Okay, let's be clear, the BACC didn't invent the concept of shopping locally to strengthen our own community's economy.
You can "be local" by simply actively supporting the area in which we live. The quality of life is good here - so enjoy the Burlington area. Shop local, eat local, read local, learn local, and be active in our community and together we build a brighter future.
Buying local supports area businesses ensuring the availability of the wide variety of products and services we're able to enjoy so close to home.
Not sure how to get connected? Familiarize yourself with the Chamber Membership Directory and Buyers Guide. This directory contains a wide variety of businesses, including a detailed listing of the professional sector. How about those shops downtown? Check out our directory for more information. Storeowners are more than willing to work with customers to get you those hard to find items - no need to fill up the car for a day's worth of chasing from store to store. Maybe it's something they have on hand - if not, just ask. They most likely can save you the extra hassle of looking elsewhere.
We don't want to preach. Although there are truly significant economic benefits to a community resulting from shopping locally, we recognize that people make their own decisions for their own reasons.
At the BACC we have long championed "Shopping Locally" and have always encouraged folks to think about the local options first. When you stop to think about it, you can get pretty much anything in Burlington.
When we invest in our own community, we pave the way for greater things. By truly looking to give back to our community and spending locally, we retain jobs, help create jobs and work to support the vitality of our community. So, next time you need something, think Burlington first. Your local economy, as well as your friends and neighbors, will thank you for it. Want to do more? Here's how... - Make time to get to know the Burlington area better ... check out the stores, go out to eat, take in a play or movie...try something different.
- Ask questions. Go to the chamber website www.burlingtonchamber.org and go to the business websites if you are in need of something you can't find. Or, simply give them a call.
- Think about transferring professional services that still remain out of town to someone local.
- Encourage fundraising in schools and organizations to have a local source.
- Sign up to receive the Chamber's e-community newsletter that highlights area businesses and promotes special offers. Be sure to share it with your friends!
