Join us as we celebrate 20 years as a non-profit corporation
By David Kyncl
Join us Saturday, July 21, 2012, as we celebrate 20 years as a non-profit organization. We will celebrate with an Open House at the 2:8 House, 700 Chautauqua, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. followed by a dinner from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Oklahoma Memorial Union.
For almost 20 years, the Nazarene Student Center for the University of Oklahoma, Inc. (now known as the the 2:8 House), has been a faithful Christian presence on the University of Oklahoma campus.
That presence can be traced to the early 1950s when a student organization known as the Nazarene Preference Society was formed. It continued through the ministry of Norman First Church of the Nazarene. Rick and LInda Short began hosting Bible studies for students on campus and in their home, even before the non-profit was formed in July, 1992.
As we prepare to celebrate the 20th anniversary of our incorporation, we would love to hear stories about how God has been at work in and through this ministry.
We continue that faithful presence by hosting weekly 2:8 Recovery meetings, meeting individually with students for fellowship and discipleship and supporting the ministry of the local Nazarene churches in Norman.
Please contact Dave at kyncl@28house.org or Anita at cranita@28house.org if you would like to share a story and/or help plan the party!

Prayer initiative launched at District Assemblies The Nazarene student ministries at Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma have joined together to challenge churches in Oklahoma to pray regularly for both campus groups.
"We realize our campuses represent global mission fields," David Kyncl, director of the OU ministry, said. "And, we know the importance of seeking God's guidance as we seek to be Christ's ambassadors on our campus."
"We are asking Oklahoma churches to list both ministries on their weekly prayer list," Kyncl said. "We also would challenge churches to pick one day each week for special prayer emphasis."
The ministries will provide periodic email prayer updates and also include a passage of scripture to pray through each month. Both ministries will commit to support each local church in prayer as well.
Pastors will be able to sign up their congregations at each District Assembly in the coming months or by visiting our website at www.28house.org and registering for the OU/OSU Prayer Initiative email list.

Online giving service established Donors may now establish an online account to schedule donations to the 2:8 House. This secure service allows donors to schedule contributions through their regular checking or credit card accounts.
The 2:8 House has contracted withStewardship Technologies, which has been providing online donation services to charities for several years. Their list of clients include Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Oklahoma City and several other Nazarene churches and colleges.
The service fee for contributions through individual checking accounts is 30 cents per transaction. The service fee for credit card donations is 30 cents per transaction and an additional 1.5 to 3 percent fee charged by the credit card company.

Financial update The 2:8 House is funded by donations received from individuals and families, Nazarene churches and districts.
The Board of Directors approved a $98,300 budget for 2012, which is the same amount as 2011. Through May, we have received 28 percent of our budgeted income while spending 35 percent of our budgeted expenses. This leaves a shortfall of almost $7,500.
Please continue to pray for the 2:8 House and staff as we consider ways to reduce our expenditures while increasing our financial support.
If you would like to make a contribution to the 2:8 House, please click here. The 2:8 House is a 10-percent missions giving ministry of the Church of the Nazarene. Nazarene Churches may give directly to the ministry and then compete a "point-to-point" giving report to receive the credit.

Home improvement, 2012 While we prepare to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the ministry, our house at 700 Chautauqua Ave. will mark it's 97th year in existence!
As with any home, we have a list of potential "home improvement" projects. Many of these could be completed in one day by a few individuals, a Sunday School or church group. Here is a partial list of projects.
Install wooden fencing: We would like to have a privacy fence build around our side yard. This would include 2 gates and 87 linear feet of privacy fence. A contractor estimated it would cost $3,200 of have this professionally installed.
We also would like to replace 33 linear feet of a white wooden picket fence adjacent to our back driveway. This fence was build by our neighbors and is in need of repair. Some of the damage incurred with a few bumps and scrapes with cars parked in our driveway.
Tree removal: We received a $900 estimate from a tree removal company for a tree located on the southeast corner of the house. This is not our largest tree, but it does extend over the corer of the second-story section of the house.
Window repair: One of the windows on the northeast corner of the house needs to be rebuilt. It appears that the window was built to enclose the front porch. It includes four, fixed panes of glass. Some of the wood has rotted and needs to be replaced. |

Trust by Matt Hammitt (click the title and press the play button on the webpage to listen to the song.)
Lest I'm tempted to forget, I'll tieYour love around my neck, I'll write Your words upon my heart, Lord, I won't forget how good you are.
I'll dwell upon Your faithfulness, I'll rest within Your promises, And when I'm walking through the dark, I won't forget how good You are.
(CHORUS)
I will trust, I will trust You I will trust You, Lord, with all my heart And I won't forget how good you are, No, I won't forget how good you are.
You gave me everything I have, And my whole life is in Your hands, When what I fear is closing in, Lord, Your faithfulness will never end
(CHORUS)
And even in the darkness, even in the questions, Even when the hardest times of life are at hand, Yeah, even in the darkness, even in the questions, Even in the times that I'm not meant to understand.
Oh, I will trust You. I will trust you, Lord, with all my heart. Oh, I will trust, I will trust You, I will trust You, Lord, with all my heart, And I won't forget how good You are, No, I won't forget how good You are.
Even in the darkness, even in the questions, Even when the hardest times of life are at hand, Even in the darkness, Even in the questions, Even in the times that I'm not meant to understand. |

| Deuteronomy 32:1-2 (The Message) |
|
Listen, Heavens, I have something to tell you.
Attention, Earth, I've got a mouth full of words.
My teaching, let it fall like a gentle rain, my words arrive like morning dew,
like a sprinkling rain on new grass, like spring showers on the garden.
For it's God's Name I'm preaching--
respond to the greatness of our God! |
