Dear Friends,

Greetings from your friends at the 2:8 House.

We want to begin this 2:8 Update by saying "thank you." If you received this e-mail, it is because you have committed to praying for our families and the ministry at the University of Oklahoma. We thank God for all He continues to do here, and we thank you for your role here as well.

We encourage you to read and pray through this update. God is at work, and we know He will continue to lead and guide us.  We encourage you to read the column to the right about how God continues to impact others through discipleship. You will also find a financial update, an update about the University Falls apartment complex and a list of donors for 2010.

Our next 2:8 Update will include more information about how God was been at work through 2:8 Recovery.

Thank you for your vital role on our ministry team.

LOVE WINS.

God's provision continues through you

Every year, God provides for the financial needs of this ministry through donations from individuals and families from several states and Nazarene congregations and districts throughout Oklahoma. You will find a listing of these donors in the 2:8 House Century Club article below.

The Board of Directors set a $98,300 budget for 2011. This budget is raised through monthly, periodic and one-time donations. So far this year, donations have decreased by more than $2,500. In fact, there is need for an additional $1,000 to meet the March 15th payroll obligations. There is a need for an additional $5,000 above the regular monthly donations to be received by the end of April.

We covet your continued prayer support as God continues to provide for the needs of the 2:8 House.

Are you ready for some football?

You are invited to join us for an Open House/Tailgate luncheon prior to the Red & White game on Saturday, April 16th. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. The Tailgate Party will begin at 11:45 a.m. at the 2:8 House, 700 Chautauqua Avenue. We will walk as a group to the game.

Tickets need to be purchased for the game prior to the April 12, 2011, deadline. The 2:8 House will have a limited number of tickets available for pastors, youth pastors and current donors to the ministry.

You are invited to stop by the 2:8 House from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., even if you aren't interested in attending the game.

For additional information, please contact Dave or Craig.

 Considering University Falls...
By Dave Kyncl
We continue to prayerfully consider the University Falls apartment complex. The complex, located within walking distance to the OU campus, has been on the market for the past several months.

"With this apartment complex, we could establish a Christian community for students who would commit to live a drug and alcohol-free lifestyle," Dave Kyncl said. "The rental income from the 32 units could support the community and additional ministry needs."

All the apartments are currently leased, with a waiting list. As they become available, the apartments could be leased to students involved with the 2:8 Recovery ministry.

A private foundation is considering the property, but we need to provide a full-notation appraisal (estimated to cost $2,500) to see if the property falls within the foundation's guidelines. A local bank has recommended we pursue a Small Business Administration loan if we need to finance the purchase.

"This apartment complex would increase the capacity of this ministry for years to come, while also providing a revenue stream that could be used to fund the on-going ministry," Kyncl said.

"We are continuing to look for donors who would like to invest in this project. We know that God will provide the necessary resources if He wants us to purchase this property."

Here are a few of the specifics:

Theme verse: "He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, 'From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'" John 7:38, NASB
Name of Apartment Complex: University Falls
Location: The corner of Boyd Street and Classen Blvd. A few blocks northeast of campus
Price: $1,399,900 (price has dropped from $1,675,000)

Units: 32 one-bedroom or one-bedroom loft apartments in three buildings.

Current Net Income: $116,901 (If the property is purchased without debt, this income would provide funds for the current and future ministry.)

Dave and Jman in orlando God changes lives through discipleship

By Dave Kyncl

We enjoy the Christmas season for several reasons. We share extended time with family as we celebrate the birth of our Savior. We have a chance to "catch our breath" between semesters. And, we hear from several of our friends and family members about how God has been at work in their lives.

One such note we received was from Zach, who was a member of a discipleship group I led at Pittsburg State University in 1993.
The following note is shared, with permission from Zach:

"Dave,
I hope you are doing well and had a great semester. My men's group is working through a book called 'The Quest for Authentic Manhood.' In the initial part of this, we have the opportunity to reflect on our life. One of the things Robert Lewis mentioned is that men need good mentors.

In reflecting on my life, I realized God blessed me with positive role models and mentors ar specific critical periods of my life. I thank you for being one of those influences. You were the first person that really took the time to show me what a Christian really is. I credit you with teaching me how to study the Bible and building skills in me that I still use today. I can't tell you how many times I think of things you said to me, or the books we studied together. I still have my card from the Pursuit of Holiness where our group signed it stating our aim was not to sin (vs. not to sin much). You, Travis, Tim, Kent, Matt and I all signed it.

I could go on listing the number of things I learned from you, but the bottom line is I just want to say thank you for taking the time to be an example for me of what a Christian really is. As you know, the college years can be a great challenge. I am thankful God blessed me with someone like you to help me during those difficult years. You will never know how much it means to me."

There have been times when I have been asked, "So when do you know when your work is successful?" And I often answer with two statements.

First of all, we get to participate in God's work in and through the lives of individual students. Secondly, since I have had the opportunity to invest in discipling relationships for more than 30 years, I get to see how God continues to work through the young men and women who have graduated and continued to grow in their relationship with Christ and others.

Zach is one of those young men.

Thanks, Zach, for the reminder that investments made into the lives of young adults bear fruit for years to come.

Thanks, too, to each person who has read this column. You received this e-mail, because you have committed to support us through your prayer and financial gifts. You play a vital role in our continued ministry.

The chorus of a familiar hymn comes to mind as I close. "When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be, when we all see Jesus,we'll sing and shout the victory."

Thank you.

LOVE WINS.

Deuteronomy 32:1-2 (The Message)
Listen, Heavens, I have something to tell you.
Attention, Earth, I've got a mouth full of words.
My teaching, let it fall like a gentle rain, my words arrive like morning dew,
like a sprinkling rain on new grass, like spring showers on the garden.
For it's God's Name I'm preaching--
respond to the greatness of our God!
