November 22, 2010
Dear Friends,
Happy Thanksgiving from your friends at the 2:8 House.
We want to begin this 2:8 Update by saying "thank you." If you received this e-mail, it is because you have committed to praying for our families and the ministry at the University of Oklahoma. We thank God for all He continues to do here, and we thank you for your role here as well.
We encourage you to read and pray through this update. God is at work, and we know He will continue to lead and guide us. Thank you for your vital role on our ministry team.
LOVE WINS.

God's provision continues
As the 2:8 House enters December, the financial status for 2010 becomes more clear. As donations that have been pledged are received, the ministry will be fully funded for another year. Thanks be to God.
As many of you know, God provides for the financial needs of this minisitry through a team of individuals, businesses, churches and districts. Through this month, more than $84,000 has been received, which represents an increase of 10.77 percent from the previous year. The expenses for the year are about $83,000, which represents a 1.71 percent decrease from 2009.
A complete year-end report will be distributed in January.
This demonstrates the importance of working together as a team. The Board of Directors took a close look at the 2010 budget, considered ways to reduce expenses, and took a more active role in raising the necessary funding. This teamwork will be essential as we pray and plan for the coming year.
All year-end donations will be used to build the capacity of the ministry to reach out and serve students through the 2:8 House. See the column on the right to learn more about building capacity.
Thank you for your faithful prayer and financial support.

Considering University Falls...By Dave Kyncl
(This article was first published last month. We continue to seek God's guidance and provision. We have been in contact with a private foundation and other potential donors.)
Since my family arrived at OU more than 12 years ago, I have had a dream of establishing a residential discipleship program. This program could encourage students to commit to living in a drug and alcohol-free environment committed to serving and reaching out to others. With the launch of 2:8 Recovery, we began to consider the purchase of an additional property, knowing that any additional property would require a miracle of God's provision. We toured two historic homes located just north of campus. One property would require significant renovation, the other property is "move-in ready." We continued to seek God's guidance and provision. However, as we were considering these properties, we noticed a For Sale sign in the front of a 32-unit apartment complex. I haven't been able to get the University Falls apartment complex out of my mind. Is it possible that God desires for the University Falls apartments to become sprints of Living Water? We covet your prayer support as the Board considers this direction.
"He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, 'From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'" John 7:38, NASB
Here are a few of the specifics:
Name of Apartment Complex: University Falls Location: The corner of Boyd Street and Classen Blvd. A few blocks northeast of campus Price: $1,475,000 Units: 32 one-bedroom or one-bedroom loft apartments in three buildings. Current Net Income: $116,901 (If we purchase this property without debt, this income would provide funds for the current and future ministry.) For more information about this property, click here.
If you would like additional information about how the ministry would utilize this property, please contact Dave Kyncl.

Building Capacity for God's Change
By Dave Kyncl As I continue to read, pray and work, I have come across the words "building capacity." A couple of years ago, these words entered a conversation as I sought advice about potential funding sources for a ministry where students would commit to live a drug and alcohol-free lifestyle.
I have been confronted with these words again and again as I have researched potential funding sources for the apartments. The number of apartments and the total number of people they could house is not the builiding capacity to which I make reference. God has been impressing me with the desire and necessity for myself and this ministry to grow our capacity to minister as He directs on campus.
"Building capacity" has also come up in my prayer life. I've become aware of the need for a faith where God will continue to build my capacity to allow Him to do His work in my life as a follower of His as well as in this ministry. As my faith In Christ grows, so does my capacity to minister in His Name. I want to experience ministry that is reliant on His capacity to love, to heal and to redeem. He is the one who will work miracles in the lives of my family and the students.
A few weeks ago, I was challenged by 2 Timothy 2:22-26 in the Message: "Run after mature righteousness--faith,love, peace--joining those who are in honest and serious prayer before God.Refuse to get involved in inane discussions; they always end up in fights. God's servant must not be argumentative, but a gentle listener and a teacher who keeps cool, working firmly but patiently with those who refuse to obey. You never know how or when God might sober them up with a change of heart and a turning to the truth, enabling them to escape the Devil's trap, where they are caught and held captive, forced to run his errands."
I invite you to join me on the journey toward mature righteousness Together, we will seek Him in honest and serious prayer.
And remember, LOVE WINS.

Listen, Heavens, I have something to tell you.
Attention, Earth, I've got a mouth full of words.
My teaching, let it fall like a gentle rain, my words arrive like morning dew,
like a sprinkling rain on new grass, like spring showers on the garden.
For it's God's Name I'm preaching--
respond to the greatness of our God! |
