2:8 UpdateOctober, 2010

October 6, 2010

Dear Friends,

Greetings once again from the 2:8 House and the OU Nazarene Student Center. I hope this update finds you doing well. As we reach the midpoint of the fall semester of classes, God continues to provide new friendships and new opportunities for ministry. We believe that this will be a month of miracles at the 2:8 House.

As we mentioned previously, we began the semester with a special night of prayer, and 2:8 Recovery began a few weeks ago. We have a group of students beginning the process of dealing with past hurts, habits and hang-ups. God's miracle of transformation has begun.

We also began the process of looking for an additional property to provide for additional student housing. We believe God is leading this ministry to provide drug and alcohol-free housing for OU students. Initially, we looked at a current bed and breakfast located just north of campus. While considering this home, we noticed a 32-unit apartment complex located near campus. Either property would require the miracle of God's provision. We believe the apartment complex would provide the greatest flexibility, while providing the opportunity to impact more students. We covet your prayer support as we seek God's guidance and provision.

Speaking of provision, this month marks the beginning of the final quarter of our financial year. We begin this quarter with the budget almost raised or pledged for the year. We need to raise an additional $3,000 to fully fund the 2010 budget. Giving to the 2:8 House has increased this year, while expenses have decreased slightly. Again, the 2:8 House is experiencing God's miracle of provision through your faithful giving.

We encourage you to read and pray through this update. God is at work, and we know He will continue to lead and guide us. Thank you for your vital role on our ministry team.

LOVE WINS.

 Considering University Falls...
By Dave Kyncl

Since my family arrived at OU more than 12 years ago, I have had a dream of establishing a residential discipleship program. This program could encourage students to commit to living in a drug and alcohol-free environment committed to serving and reaching out to others.

With the launch of 2:8 Recovery, we began to consider the purchase of an additional property, knowing that any additional property would require a miracle of God's provision. We toured two historic homes located just north of campus. One property would require significant renovation, the other property is "move-in ready." We continued to seek God's guidance and provision. However, as we were considering these properties, we noticed a For Sale sign in the front of a 32-unit apartment complex. I haven't been able to get the University Falls apartment complex out of my mind.

Is it possible that God desires for the University Falls apartments to become sprints of Living Water? We covet your prayer support as the Board considers this direction.

Here are a few of the specifics:

Name of Apartment Complex: University Falls
Location: The corner of Boyd Street and Classen Blvd. A few blocks northeast of campus
Price: $1,475,000

Units: 32 one-bedroom or one-bedroom loft apartments in three buildings.

Current Net Income: $116,901 (If we purchase this property without debt, this income would provide funds for the current and future ministry.)

For more information about this property, click here.
If you would like additional information about how the ministry would utilize this property, please contact Dave Kyncl.

 God's provison continues
As the 2:8 House enters the final quarter of our financial year, the ministry needs an additional $3,000 to meet the projected budgeted income for the year.

"We thank God for His continued provision for the 2:8 House," Dave Kyncl said. "This ministry has always been totally dependent upon God, His direction and His provision. He continues to esablish a great ministry team."

The Board of Directors took a close look at the 2010 budget, considered ways to reduce expenses, and took a more active role in raising the necessary funding.

We hope to raise the additional funds through the Vision Dinner later this month, while we also contact foundations and others concerning the purchase of additional property.

Living His Way
Living His way

By Dave Kyncl

As we have worked to complete the final weeks of our Celebrate Recovery small group, I was encouraged to spend daily time in God's Word and record how God was speaking to me in my journal.

As I journaled, I became aware of how often my personal Bible study was for someone else. I was preparing for a small group or looking for a passage to share as a way to encourage someone else.

I was reminded in Isaiah 55 about the importance of regular, personal devotional time:
"'I don't think the way you think. The way you work isn't the way I work.' God's decree. For as the sky soars high above earth, so the way I work surpasses the way you work and the way I think beyond the way you think. Just as the rain and snow descend from the skies and don't go back until they've watered the earth doing their work of making things grow and blossom, producing seed for farmers and food for the hungry, so will the words that come out of my mouth not come back empty-handed. They'll do the work I sent them to do."

It is God who is at work in me, in my family, in the lives of students and others. As part of the leadership team at the 2:8 House and my local church, I must stay close to Christ through my personal
discipline of Bible stydy and prayer

And I guess I needed another reminder as I read 1 Timothy 4:16:
"Keep close watch all you do and think. Stay true to what is right and God will bless you and use you to help others."

My desire is faithfullness and obedience to my Christ. In my life and in the ministry of the 2:8 House, it is His Way and not my way.

LOVE WINS.

Deuteronomy 32:1-2 (The Message)
Listen, Heavens, I have something to tell you.
Attention, Earth, I've got a mouth full of words.
My teaching, let it fall like a gentle rain, my words arrive like morning dew,
like a sprinkling rain on new grass, like spring showers on the garden.
For it's God's Name I'm preaching--
respond to the greatness of our God!
