Dear Friends,
Greetings once again from the University of Oklahoma and the 2:8 House.
The past several weeks have been a time of reflection and renewal. We were able to share in at least a portion of the Northeast Oklahoma and Southwest Oklahoma district assemblies, attend the regional Pastors and Leaders Conference (PALCON) at Southern Nazarene University.and visit a sister campus ministry in Seattle at the University of Washington. The article below will provide some additional details about how God has been at work.
You are invited to join us for an evening of prayer at the house. We have set aside Friday, August 6th, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. We hope many of you will be able to join us.
We also are offering season parking permits for all OU football games. You will find additional information listed below. Please feel free to forward this e-mail to any of your friends who purchase season tickets to OU football. We have nine spaces remaining at $300 each.
This update also includes financial information. We believe that it is essential to keep our friends and donors aware of the financial status of our ministry. We ask for your continued insight and prayer support.
We thank God for the opportunity to serve as Christ's ambassadors and your representatives on the University of Oklahoma campus. Thank you for being a vital part of our ministry team. We trust you will enjoy this update.
LOVE WINS.

2:8 House: Vision Recovery
The past several weeks have provided some time for reflection and renewal. Five of us continue to work through the "step studies" that are the core of the Celebrate Recovery ministry. Last week we reached the "half-way" point of the study.
We also had the opportunity to participate in at least part of the Northeast Oklahoma and Southwest Oklahoma district assemblies in early June. Both assemblies provided the opportunity to touch base and say "thank you" to several indivduals, churches and both districts.
While preparing for the disrict assemblies, I completed the initial work on a new vision document. This 14-page document provides a more detailed context for the recovery ministry which we will begin in just more than one month. The complete document can be found at this link.
The process of writing the vision document was a great source of encouragement as I was reminded of how God has been at work in and through the 2:8 House. For the past 12 years, my family has been able to serve here. Two years ago, God brought Craig and Anita to join us. We continue to make Christ-like disciples in the nations through friendship, mentoring relationships and Bible study.
God continues to open doors of opportunity as we seek to engage the OU campus.
Craig and I continue to teach as adjuct instructors for two freshman classes. This provides a great opportunity to get to know several students as well as the faculty and staff of OU's University College. Rhonda continues to serve as the Assistant Dean of OU's College of Arts and Sciences.
We continue to be actively involved in the Norman Public School system. Mary and Jonathan both attend school. Anita works as a teacher's assistant in a special needs classroom. Rhonda recently served as the president of a local elementary school PTA.
God continues to provide opportunities to engage the campus and Norman community with the gospel. He also continues to build the ministry support team for this ministry to grow and prosper. Thank you for your role as part of our ministry team. |
Evening of Prayer scheduled Aug. 6th
As we continue to prepare for the fall semester, we acknowledge the importance of prayer. We want to do everything we can to follow the leadership of the Holy Spirit as we meet new students and launch the Celebrate Recovery ministry.
Everyone is invited to join us for this special time of prayer Friday, August 6th, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Contact Dave or Craig for more informaiton. |

Season permits for football parking available
For the first time, the 2:8 House is offering season parking passes for OU football games.
Passes will be available for a $300 donation to the 2:8 House and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Those who park at the house will be invited to a tailgate party that will begin two hours prior to each kickoff.
"We have found that OU football games are a great way to introduce others to our ministry," Dave Kyncl said. "Our hope is that these season passes will allow us to build relationships with others and share with them how God is at work here."
"We hope to sell all 11 parking spots within the next few weeks."
The 2:8 House is located at 700 Chautauqua Avenue, which is one block south of Boyd Street. For further information, please contact Dave Kyncl at kyncl@28house.org. |
Finances/expenses remain close
A financial report from July 12 demonstrated how close the finances remain for the ministry. Just half way through the year, our income stands at $45,410 (53.42% of budget) while our expenses total $44,835 (54.11% of budget).
In the past few weeks, several donors increased their pledges for the rest of the year. Increased financial support has been received from Regency Park Church of the Nazarene (Tulsa), Silver Creek Church of the Nazarene (Owasso), Southwest Oklahoma District and John and Carolyn Jensen. Northeast Oklahoma District renewed their annual pledge of support as well.
"Every year, the ministry funds are received through a combination of monthly and periodic donations," David Kyncl said. "Finances are always close, but God continues to provide for our family and ministry through the generous support of our friends."
Kyncl estimated that an additional $14,270 needs to be pledged/received in addition to the current pledges to balance the budget by the end of the year.
"We realize this is a difficult time for many of our friends," Kyncl said, "and we strive to be good stewards of God's blessings."
In additional to raising the regular budget, the ministry has a few additional expenses as well:
1) We would like to attend the Celebrate Recovery Leadership Summit, August 10-13. The cost is around $1,000 per person for up to four people.
2) Football tickets--for the past several years we have purchased season football tickets as a way to thank current donors and introduce potential donors to the ministry. This year the Board has asked that the tickets be funded through designated donations or be sold to cover the cost of the tickets. We still need to raise about $2,500 to cover this expense. (Pre-selling the season parking passes also would cover this expense.)
3) Home improvements--we would like to re-install pocket doors in the dining room, replace the ceramic tile around the fireplace in the living room, complete some window repairs and install guttering on the house. Contact us for additional information. |

The Road to Recovery... (This column is a reprint from last month's 2:8 Update, but it describes the process as we prepare to launch a recovery ministry next month.)
By David Kyncl
A funny thing happened on the road to recovery. More accurately, a Godly thing.
For the past few months we have requested prayer as we continue to prepare to launch a recovery ministry in August. Part of that preparation is attending Celebrate Recovery Bible studies.
This process has been very humbling, and very beneficial. At the study, the participants don't know I'm a campus minister and church board member. They don't know Rhonda is an assistant dean or that Craig and Anita have been and continue to be missionaries. They don't know Stephanie has been involved in prison ministry and campus ministry for years.
What do they know?
"Hi, I'm Dave. I'm a grateful believer in Jesus Christ, and I struggle with..."
For several weeks, we have been meeting with a group and working through the studies. Of course, the studies do address the "big addictions" of drugs and alcohol, and I thank God I don't deal with those issues. However, the Holy Spirit has been dealing with my attitude toward food, spending and other areas as I walk "in the light" toward recovery.
God continues to meet with each of us.
Craig said, "the very first time I went to Celebrate Recovery, I heard someone tell (the leader) that they weren't sure they needed to be there. She said that no matter who you are, what you've done, or what you haven't done, we all need CR because we want to follow Christ more closely."
"The whole point of redemption is to recover God's image that is created in me," Craig continued. "For me, that has become my personal pursuit, and CR has been very helpful in that process."
Anita agreed.
"It's hard to dig so deep into yourself, but through the process ou find yourself growing closer to Christ," she said.
We all have grown closer to Christ through this process, and our excitement builds as we prepare to launch the ministry at OU in August.
Please continue to pray for us as these studies continue through the summer months. You might even consider visiting a Celebrate Recovery ministry in your community. If you don't find one, maybe you can be the one to help bring recovery to yourself and your community.
LOVE WINS. |

| Deuteronomy 32:1-2 (The Message) |
|
Listen, Heavens, I have something to tell you.
Attention, Earth, I've got a mouth full of words.
My teaching, let it fall like a gentle rain, my words arrive like morning dew,
like a sprinkling rain on new grass, like spring showers on the garden.
For it's God's Name I'm preaching--
respond to the greatness of our God! |
