PowerShell means never having to say "no"
|
PowerShell came to our rescue again today. When fielding questions from customers, we're always afraid of getting a request that is so unique that we have to say, sorry we can't do that. For one thing, it means a disappointed customer. It may also lead to the addition of some obscure feature that only 1 out of 1,000 customers will ever use but we would need to support it anyway.
When we added a PowerShell snap-in to JAMS, we knew that it was a great way to expose JAMS to a command line environment and we knew that the JAMS Provider would be a great tool for moving JAMS objects between environments. What we didn't realize was how often PowerShell would keep us from having to say 'We're sorry."
Recently, a customer wanted to remove all of the completed jobs from the JAMS Monitor view. They didn't want to wait for the jobs to disappear after the configured delay. The customer wanted to be able to delete the jobs on demand. Instead of saying 'can't be done', we gave them this PowerShell one-liner:
Get-JAMSEntry -state Completed | Stop-JAMSEntry -confirm:$false
Voila! Case solved. Windows PowerShell - we love it!
