Our Mission:

InnVision is a primary gateway for homeless families and individuals seeking shelter and resources that lead to self-sufficiency.  Our comprehensive system of care promotes self-worth and dignity at multiple facilities throughout Silicon Valley, including shelters, longer-term housing options and service centers, each equipped to meet emergency and transitional needs of diverse, at-risk people.

InnVision is...the Way Home!

InnVision...The Way Home

Holiday Preview 2011
Greetings!

Please help us create a magical holiday season for those in need.
Girl with Teddy Bear

Just imagine spending the night on the street.  With no roof over your head, everything you own in a suitcase or two and your children in tow, where would you turn?  What if you didn't know where your next meal was coming from and your children were hungry?  As a parent, the idea of no shelter and no food for your children is unimaginable.  Sadly, for more than 29,000 men, women, and children, this is reality.  When you're homeless, nothing else matters.

More than 1,400 people come through InnVision's doors on a daily basis in search of shelter, food, clothing, and basic necessities.  Families with children are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population and they need your help TODAY.

Perhaps you haven't donated for a while or are waiting for year end.  With the current economic crisis lingering, cut backs in government funding, and client numbers continuing to rise, we hope you will consider sending a donation today. There is no greater pleasure than the joy of giving back. To donate, please visit our website at www.InnVision.org or mail your check to our administrative office at 1900 The Alameda, Suite 400, San Jose, CA 95126.

We also have several volunteer opportunities this holiday season. Coming up in November is our annual Thanksgiving feast at Rock Bottom Restaurant that will host over 300 InnVision clients. The Holiday Toy and Teen Shoppe will take place in mid-December so that nearly 1,500 families can provide gifts for their children. Throughout the next few months, we will see more volunteers as community members are inspired to give back to their neighbors.

The holidays are the time of year when we can truly make a difference in a child's life. Children who are homeless or at-risk for homelessness do not often have the chance to act like carefree kids their age because the stresses of poverty are so enormous. Every year, we are proud to partner with corporations, social groups, churches, schools, and individuals to ensure that InnVision youth can have a joyful holiday season.

There are lots of ways to get involved before the new year. Please read on in this newsletter to find out more details about ways you can help make the holidays special for InnVision clients, young and old.

Within the next couple of weeks you will receive our year end appeal. Please consider inviting your friends, family and colleagues to share the joy of giving back while helping our children and families in need.  We thank you for your kindness and generosity during the season of giving.

Warm regards,

 Signed: Christine Burroughs

Rock Bottom Thanksgiving

On Thanksgiving Day, Rock Bottom Restaurant has invited our clients from Julian Street Inn, Montgomery Street Inn, and the Villa for a special festive dinner to celebrate the holiday. Most families only have to host one Thanksgiving dinner, but our wonderful partner, Rock Bottom Restaurant in Campbell, is planning on hosting two dinners and feeding 300 people!

The initial green light for the event was given by General Manager Bennett Ponder and this is the third time Rock Bottom has graciously hosted InnVision sites for a Thanksgiving Celebration. Rock Bottom will be transporting the residents to and from the restaurant in luxury coach buses and once residents arrive, a traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the fixings will be served.

But the festivities won't stop with the meal - Thanksgiving-themed arts and crafts will be provided for the children and a photographer will be at the restaurant to take holiday themed pictures for the residents so they have something special to remember the celebration.

Holiday GiftHoliday Toy and Teen Shoppe

The holidays are a very happy time for most families, and every year, InnVision makes sure that all families are able to have a joyous holiday season. We need your help to make that happen!

This year, nearly 1,500 families are expected to receive toys and gifts from our Holiday Toy and Teen Shoppe in December. Check out our special Holiday Wish List to find out what types of items will be most appreciated for the holidays. Please don't forget our teens, who are often overlooked at this time of the year.

With your help, we can ensure that every child receives a gift, whether it is a new stuffed animal, manicure set, science and discovery toys, or awesome action figures. You can donate gifts yourself, or you can help organize a donation drive with your friends or colleagues. Visit our website for info on how to host a drive for InnVision.

Two InnVision locations will host the Holiday Toy and Teen Shoppe, and both need donations and volunteers!

OSCNew Shelter Pilot Program on the Peninsula -
Hotel de Zink: Women's Shelter

InnVision Hotel de Zink is the only emergency shelter in Palo Alto for homeless individuals, and a university student group called Night Outreach, along with InnVision, is planning to expand the program this winter! The current program accommodates 15 people each night, and with this new initiative, an additional 15 women will have a warm bed to come home to.

Hotel de Zink: Women's Shelter will be open between the cold, rainy months of mid-January to mid-April 2012. Night Outreach, a group committed to meeting and establishing mutual relationships with those who are unhoused in the community, is working closely with InnVision to raise money for this program exclusively for homeless women.

The new shelter will follow the model of the original Hotel de Zink. Because it rotates between Palo Alto faith communities, the shelter relies on the compassion and collaboration of multiple organizations and individuals to provide a critical need. For only $20 a day, you can pay for shelter for one client. To donate, please visit our website at www.InnVision.org or mail a check to our administrative office at 1900 The Alameda Suite 400, San Jose, CA 95126 and denote that your gift is for Hotel de Zink: Women's Shelter.

The Hotel de Zink: Women's Shelter initiative will be implemented as a pilot program for 2012, and future plans will be decided upon evaluation. Though a trial, the women's shelter will serve to alleviate the strain of winter months on the area's homeless individuals.

Together, we can provide shelter to more people in desperate need of it on the Peninsula.

Adopt-A-Family

A very meaningful way to give back during the holiday season is to Adopt-A-Family through the InnVision Family Services program. Around 200 families have special wishes that they would like to see fulfilled, and you can help them by providing gifts, clothing, and food vouchers

Co-workers, parishioners, and club members can work together to adopt an InnVision family, or it may be a special project that you and your family can take on this year.

To get involved, email Kay Brown at adoptafamily@innvision.org. She will help match you with a family to make their holiday wishes come true.

Volunteering During the Holidays

The holidays are a perfect time to volunteer! Volunteering is a meaningful way to remember how blessed you are while working for a great cause. There are so many ways to get involved with InnVision, including:
  • prepare a meal for shelter residents
  • organize clothing donations for shoppers
  • beautify an InnVision program site
  • hand out groceries to hungry families and individuals
  • give away presents at the Holiday Toy and Teen Shoppe
  • many more opportunities that are also available year-round
Please contact Erika Sutton at 408-380-8707 now to register before volunteer spots fill up!

"This was my first time in a shelter. I found the residents very friendly, ready to share their experiences, but most importantly working to get back on the right path. On several occasions, the residents mentioned how lucky they are to have a place like InnVision. Thank you for this experience."

Sobrato Family FoundationYour Donation Can Go Further

Thanks to a challenge grant from the

 Sobrato Family Foundation,

your gift can go further than ever.

The foundation will match donations from any new or lapsed donor.  So, if you have never given to InnVision or have not given since July 1, 2010, they will match your generosity dollar-for-dollar.  In addition, if you increase your giving for the period July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012, the Sobrato Family Foundation will match half.  How about that for an easy way to have an impact?

If you are not able to give now, please think about telling your friends how they can help the community by giving to InnVision the Way Home.
