Greetings!

Welcome to 2009!

Here are a few things to keep in mind over the coming weeks to keep up with your fellow Fellows....

"Proposition 8 Unraveled" Dialogue Moved to Feb. 19

threadsProp. 8 unleashes more than a governmental definition of marriage -- and as leaders, how do we prepare for a court decision sure to make one side very unhappy?

Thursday, February 19, 5:30 - 7:30 pm, FREE  RSVP

The election is over, but the many threads of Proposition 8 continue to be unraveled. At the request of several Fellows we have organized an special 3rd Thursday session to explore the civil rights and other issues in this controversial proposition.

We will have Leslie Jacobs, a Constitutional Law professor from McGeorge and courtesy of Class VIII's Elizabeth Parker, as well as Fellows from all sides of the issue to lead off the discussion. This controversy isn't going to go away any time soon, so join us as we explore ways of coming together for the good of all concerned.

Do You Know Leaders in
San Joaquin?

ALF's new San Joaquin Chapter seeking nominations for first Fellows class

ALF SJVDavid Hosley left KVIE last year to lead the Great Valley Center and one of his first endeavors was to create an ALF chapter for the San Joaquin Valley.

This fledgling chapter now needs nominees for the first group of "trailblazers," and if you work with leaders from that area (stretching from Lodi to Manteca) and feel they would make great ALF Fellows for this first class, they would like to hear from you!

Use their online nomination form and help them get the ball rolling!

Assist with Sacramento Homeless Count
Each year the Sacramento County Department of Human Assistance coordinates a count of how many homeless people are in the community.  The information from the count helps improve services, develop new programs, support the Ten-Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness, and keep crucial federal funding for existing programs.

This year this very important event will be held on January 27, 2009 from 8:00 p.m. to midnight. The magnitude of this undertaking requires approximately 350-400 people who are willing to attend a 3-hour training in the week prior to the event, and then to participate from 8:00 to midnight on the night of the event.  More info.
