Fund for the Needy has Record Year! |

Atlantic Street Center is proud to be one of 13 local agencies receiving support from The Seattle Times Fund for the Needy. This year's Fund for the Needy campaign raised an all-time record amount of $926,069! This is the third record-breaking year in a row, surpassing last year by almost $125,000. This result says so much about our community in this time of significant need for so many.

The Road Map Project |
The greater Seattle region has a power house, knowledge-based economy and boasts one of the best educated workforces in the nation. Yet for 55,000 low-income students growing up in South Seattle and South King County, education results are shockingly poor.
We currently import more talent than we grow locally and the effects are devastating for our children, our communities and our economy. The need for action is urgent - and growing: -A staggering 50% of Washington's children are not ready to succeed when they enter kindergarten.(Source: Washington Learns) -By 2018, 67% of jobs in Washington will require a college degree or credential. (Source: Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce) -Only 22% of students in the lowest income areas of the Road Map region complete a two or four-year college degree. (Source: The BERC Group/College Tracker)
The "Road Map Project" is a new community partnership aimed at getting dramatic improvement in student achievement-cradle through college/career. The project is focusing on Seattle and South King County communities: Auburn, Burien, Des Moines, Federal Way, Kent, Renton, SeaTac, South Seattle, Tukwila and unincorporated King County. The Goal of the Road Map Project is to double the number of students in South Seattle and South King County who are on track to graduate from college or earn a career credential by 2020. We are committed to nothing less than closing the unacceptable achievement gaps for low income students and children of color, and increasing achievement for all students from cradle to college and career.
Hundreds of individuals and organizations, including Atlantic Street Center, are participating in the Education Results Network to inform the scope and direction of the Road Map Project, and more are joining all the time. A new nonprofit organization, the Community Center for Education Results (CCER), staffs the Road Map Project. The Seattle Foundation is acting as CCER's fiscal sponsor.
This effort will impact all of us so please get involved! Join the Education Results Network, endorse the Road Map project, and help spread the word. To learn more, please visit the website. |

Massive Monkeys Give Back to the Community |

Massive Monkees, a 28 member B-boy group from Seattle, made Thanksgiving happier for six Atlantic Street Center families! As part of their Massive Miracles Event, the group provided each of these families (and seven more in the community) with a Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings.
Massive Monkeys is active in the community, performing at high schools to counter the notion that hip-hop and gangs go hand-in-hand. The group has appeared on MTV's America's Best Dance Crew and they won the 2004 World B-boy Championships in London. To learn more about the group, visit their website.
THANK YOU to Massive Monkeys for their generosity and caring! |

But according to research conducted in 2000, only around eight percent of people choose to continue this support through a charitable bequest. Atlantic Street Center has an important mission. You believe in our mission and have supported us during your lifetime with generous gifts. Have you considered supporting us through gifts from your will or trust?
It's very easy to do. One good place to start is the Leave a Legacy website. There you can find all you need to get started! You can also contact your legal advisor for help. |
