Deal of the Week
Gourmet Lunch Saturday, July 17 - Crêpes de Raisin Gelée

crepes

Billy will be preparing crêpes de raisin gelée for our next Saturday gourmet lunch. If you don't know what that is, look it up. (But I guarantee, like all Billy's lunches, it will be delicious!).

TV Show at the Club

In case you were wondering what all the trucks were doing in our parking lot Friday, they were shooting an episode of the new TV crime drama The Glades. I don't know when this episode will air, but you can find The Glades on A & E at 10:00 Sunday nights.

Bridge Movie Added to Website
We have a brand new feature on our website. It is an interactive bridge "movie" which allows you to follow the play on the current Deal of the week.

Bridge Movie

You can click through the entire deal one bid and one trick at a time by clicking on the single right arrow > or autoplay the entire deal by clicking on the double right arrow >>.

The movie is a Java application. You will need to have Java enabled on your computer. Most modern computers already have Java installed, but if you don't, you can download it here.
Let Sleeping Dogs Lie
You did overcall 2 on your first turn, didn't you? Simply holding a seven-card suit is no reason to preempt. Jump overcalls (3, 4, and even 5*) are for week hands. You have a good hand.

Now, however, you should simply pass.

South passed a forcing bid (2). It is apparent your opponents have had an "accident" in the bidding. Perhaps North should have cue-bid 3 instead of introducing his diamond suit. He might have even jumped to 4 to show spade support and a singleton club.

Don't give North a second chance to bid the cold spade game.

*When we discussed this hand at the club, all of these bids were suggested.
Cheers,
