At Bridge Ace we KNOW bridge!

Deal of the Week
Tuesday, July 22
San Juan, Puerto Rico
Deal of the Week
Board 14
Since I was not at Bridge Ace last week, I chose a hand from our cruise. Filling in a half-table, I played this hand with Bernie in San Juan.

Sitting South, I opened 1Diamond and Bernie (North) responded 1. This might look a little funny to some of you, but we were playing 2/1 Game Forcing and, systemically, his hand was not strong enough to respond 2.

I jump-shifted to 3, showing 18+ points and forcing to game. All of a sudden, Bernie's hand started to look much better, with AK10x in my first suit and Kxxxx in my second. He marked time with a 3Diamond preference.

I showed belated spade support with 3 and Bernie jumped all the way to 7Diamond!

There was nothing to the play. I led one round of trumps (the queen, to guard against West having all four) and, when both sides followed, claimed thirteen tricks.

Greetings!

I'm back from our bridge cruise. We had fun, but I'm glad to be home.

I have a special treat in store for you this week. Friday, August 1, Zeke Jabbour and his lovely wife Sharon will be at Bridge Ace. Zeke has graciously volunteered to give a talk prior to the game, at 11:45.

More good news from Bridge Ace. Bernie Chazen has agreed to give a free lecture once each month! If you attended his last lecture, you know how much fun his lessons are.

Stay tuned for an announcement about Bernie's next lecture. Here is a link to Bernie's own web site.
Many thanks to John Black for so ably filling in for me while I was gone last week.

Mark your calendars now. We will be running the Silver Point STAC, Monday through Friday, August 11-16.
