City of Sammamish
Late this month, as part of a broad-based effort to gauge community sentiment, the city will conduct a statistically valid, random phone survey focused on its Parks, Recreation and Open Space (PRO) Plan. State law requires a periodic update to the PRO Plan, which is part of the city's comprehensive plan. "We've already held 10 neighborhood
meetings as part of our community 'listening tour,'" Parks Director Jessi Richardson said. "This phone survey will be another important step along the way to make sure the revisions fit with community expectations and values."

The questions will also be on the city website as the phone survey is conducted. (Survey dates are still to be determined.) Although responses collected on the website won't be statistically valid, Richardson says they willbroaden the city's outreach efforts. "We want to make sure everyone who wants to participate will have the opportunity," Richardson said. "It will be interesting to see how closely the phone and web answers match up."

Among other things, the survey will touch on parks, athletic fields, trails, open space, aquatics, art and culture, and the possibility of a community center. After reviewing public input with the City Council, and the Parks, Planning and Arts Commissions, a draft PRO Plan will begin to take shape. With continuing involvement from the commissions and the City Council, and additional opportunities for the public to weigh in, the revised PRO Plan is expected to be adopted
sometime in 2011.

For more information on the PRO Plan, go to the city website or call the Parks Department at 425-295-
0585.

The Sammamish Art Commission
is honored to display 5 historical flags, on loan from City of Sammamish Senior Planner Rob Garwood, in an exhibit titled "The Stars and Stripes of the 20th Century" between June 14th and September 13th.

There are five flags, ranging in size from 3 x 5 feet - 12 x 9 feet. One of them is longer than would be considered typical as it was intended to be flown at the aft end of a naval vessel.
