The Sammamish Chamber of Commerce Endorses School Levys!  At the January 5th SCC Board Meeting, our Board of Directors unanimously agreed to put forth an endorsement of our 2 Schools District's Levies and Bond.  For Lake Washington School District this means endorsing 2 Levies and 1 Bond; for the Issaquah School District, 3 Levies. The board agrees that these issues are critical to the welfare of our children's education.  With budget shortfalls, these 2 school districts will be critically affected.  Please be sure to vote February 9th.

Student Internships
As a part of the volunteer program, the City of Sammamish has been offering student internships for developmentally disabled students. This has been a real benefit to the city and to the school programs. By having an internship the student is able to learn real job skills that will increase their chance of getting a paid position in the near future.

Below are some of the jobs that the students are very capable of performing:

Setting up for meetings
Compiling notebooks for meetings
Delivering mail
Helping with mailings
Watering plants
Organizing papers and storage
Stocking shelves
Shredding (they love to do this task)
Folding newsletters
Cleaning up kitchen, sweeping floors, organizing drawers (with supervisions)
Windexing glass

If you would like more information about offering this opportunity and possibly changing the life of one of these students, please contact, Dawn Sanders, Volunteer Coordinator for the City of Sammamish @ dsanders@ci.sammamish.wa.us, 425-295-0556, or any of the program directors listed below:

Let's Support our Kids! Please read what resident Hannah Hall writes:
My name is Hannah Hall. I am a Sammamish resident and 5th grader at Cascade Ridge Elementary and now a finalist in the Jif Creative Kids Sandwich Contest with 9 others nationwide. But I won't make the top five without online votes. I wanted to ask if you and your members could spread the word among local
businesses and community members and take a moment to vote for my sandwich, the "Nutty Texas Pannini with a Hula" at www.jif.com  (one vote per day, per person, per email) as many times as possible
between now and February 12th. We are asking for the Mayor's help too. There is a college scholarship for
the winner.
