Norton Says, Author!
Norton's biographer is coming to Missouri. Award-winning food and wine editor and author Todd Kliman will visit Stone Hill Winery, Hermann on Friday, August 20 from 6 pm to 8 pm to sign copies of his book about the Norton grape, The Wild Vine: A Forgotten Grape and the Untold Story of American Wine.
WIld VineThe Wild Vine unravels the lost story and history of the Norton grape and includes several sections devoted to Missouri wine and the winemakers who have dedicated themselves to producing award-winning Norton wines.
The author explores the origins of Norton, when Dr. Daniel Norton, having tragically lost both his wife and infant son, creates a hybrid grape from native strains, one that is able to endure the climate and also produce a good, drinkable wine. Through a series of fortunate events, the grape makes a name for itself but the glory is short-lived. When Prohibition arrives, the government mandates the burning of all vineyards. Norton, on the brink of greatness, fades away until the 1960s when the Missouri wine industry Renaissance begins.
For more info on this opportunity to visit with Norton's biographer and the book signing call Stone Hill Winery at 1-800-909-9463.
