Interest is surging in Gotham's new program for younger skaters! We are dedicated to training and developing young roller derby skaters at all skill levels and providing opportunities to play.
Our goal is to provide a fun, safe environment for 8-17 year old girls to learn the sport of roller derby. Who can join?
Girls and young women between the ages of 8 and 17 years. We welcome all skill levels, but ask that you are able to comfortably stand in your skates and make it around the track without holding on to walls or people.
How is it structured?
Initially, all junior derby skaters will be in sessions together, learning the basics of skating and roller derby. Classes will be taught by GGRD veteran skaters and coaches. We will start by covering roller skating basics - starts, stops, safe falls, crossover, skating form - with the eventual incorporation of roller derby specific, scrimmage-style drills.
Depending on numbers of skaters, classes may be split further by age and/or skill level, with the intent of developing skaters to the point that they will be comfortable having full-length scrimmages against one another.
Tuesday sessions / May 1st - July 10th / 5-6:30pm
*NO PRACTICE July 3rd
Saturday sessions / May 5th - July 14th
*NO PRACTICE June 23rd
4-5:30pm, but bumped up to 1-2:30pm on GGRD bout days
(May 19, June 16, July 14)
10-week Tuesday or Saturday packages are $200; individual classes are $25. Sign up at ggrdtix.com. Additional questions? Email jrderby@gothamgirlsrollerderby.com
