The Gotham Girls All-Stars finished their 2010 campaign by placing third at the WFTDA's 2010 Championship Tournament, hosted by the Windy City Rollers in Chicago.
If you want to win a WFTDA title, you've got to get through Gotham. The GGRD All-Stars continued their streak of either winning the tournament outright — as in 2008 — or losing to the WFTDA's eventual Champions — as in 2007 to the Kansas City Roller Warriors, 2009 to Olympia's Oly Rollers, and in 2010 to Denver's Rocky Mountain Rollergirls. After enjoying a first-round 'bye' thanks to winning September's WFTDA East Regionals, the Gotham Girls charged through their first matchup of the weekend, handing the Texecutioners from Austin a 99-point defeat, 151-52. The New Yorkers were then stopped in the tournament semi-finals by Rocky Mountain's impressive skaters, 113-79. Gotham moved on to the 3rd/4th place consolation bout, where they routed their long-time rivals, the Philly Rollergirls, 162-51. The victory over Philly was Gotham's seventh win in eight meetings between the squads, and Bonnie Thunders posted a personal-best 108 jamming points. Rocky Mountain went on to defeat the Oly Rollers by one point in one of the most thrilling bouts in the young history of the sport. Read more about the tournament results at the Derby News Network and in the bout summaries by Gotham's scribe Thomas Gerbasi. The GGRD All-Stars now take a well-deserved break after the year's 12-1 campaign. Since the beginning of 2007, the All-Stars' record stands at 36-5. The league fully expects to retain its status as a top national power in 2011 as it waves goodbye to a few key contributors but welcomes a group of dangerous faces to the ranks.
