More Than Just Bragging Rights on the Line

Roller derby parity has arrived in the Big Apple; look no further than the league standings, where the Bronx Gridlock (2-1) and Queens of Pain (2-1) hold court in a first place tie, while the Manhattan Mayhem (1-1) can join them with a victory over the Brooklyn Bombshells in the regular season finale this Saturday at Hunter College ... And if you talk to skaters on both teams, most believe that Saturday's bout will be won in the trenches, where a host of All-Stars battle it out in the pack.

TRAITORS WIN THE 2010 EMPIRE SKATE SHOWDOWN
Wall Street Traitors celebrate victory at the Empire Skate Showdown
Congratulations to Gotham's Wall Street Traitors, who won the championship of the first New York State derby tournament (the "Empire Skate Showdown") with September 4th victories over Ithaca (53-32), Long Island (50-44), and Albany (85-20). Care Bear Scare of the Bronx Gridlock was voted the finals MVP for her consistent jamming and aggressive re-engaging on defense.

The Wall Street Traitors are Gotham's 'All-Borough' team, made up from skaters from all four local Gotham teams. The 2010 Traitors are captained by Stevie Kicks of the Queens of Pain and Straight Razor of the Manhattan Mayhem. The Traitors victories at the tournament were managed by Hewlett Smackard and Endless Justin.

Participating NY-state leagues included: Albany All-Stars, Assault City Roller Derby, Central New York Roller Derby, GGRD's Wall Street Traitors, Hellions of Troy, Hudson Valley Horrors, Ithaca League of Women Rollers, and the Long Island Roller Rebels. Thank you, Long Island, for organizing and hosting a great day of roller derby!
