The regular season wraps up with a fall brawl between the three-time league champion Queens of Pain and the fan-favorite sailorette Brooklyn Bombshells.

Queens and Brooklyn both feature posses of impressive rookies completing their first GGRD campaigns. The skaters in black and in blue are eager to end their league seasons with a victory before sharing the spotlight next month in GGRD's annual post-season double-header (October 24, against out-of-town foes TBA).

This bout promises a great selection of raffle prizes, VIP gifts, and special appearances and promotions building excitement for the premiere of Whip It, the Fox Searchlight feature film opening October 2.

Halftime entertainment will feature a performance from Lady Circus, which promises an intoxicating cocktail of riot and glamour -- a mix of sideshow, Brooklyn grit, and 1920's gilded decadence finished off with a modern edge. DJ Gefilte Funk will spin the music before and during the bout.

This faceoff takes place at the Hunter College Sportsplex, at the southwest corner of Lexington Ave and 68th Street in Manhattan, directly at the 68th street stop on the (6) subway line and near the (F) train stop at 63rd street.

The Hunter College Sportsplex is wheelchair-accessible; for specific questions about access, leave a message at the Gotham Girls hotline: (888) 830-2253.

The Bronx Gridlock wrapped up their second consecutive undefeated regular season with a hard-hitting 99-75 victory.

Miss the bout? Read about it through the eyes of a new derby fan as Linnea Covington continues her season-long coverage of the Gotham Girls in New York Press.

The highlight of the half-time show was a marriage proposal that came with complementary T-shirts reading 'We’re engaged, suck it.' Ah, nothing says 'I love you' like watching hot chicks battle it out on skates with your sweetheart.

The WFTDA's 2008 Champions - the Gotham Girls Roller Derby All-Stars, a combined roster representing Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens - take the track in Raleigh, NC to begin their title defense.

The Carolina Rollergirls host the Wicked Wheels of the East, a three-day tournament (Sept 11-13) between the WFTDA's top Eastern Region squads.

Tournament seeding:
1) Gotham Girls Roller Derby (New York)
2) Philly Rollergirls (Philadelphia)
3) Charm City Rollergirls (Baltimore)
4) Carolina Rollergirls (Raleigh)
5) Boston Derby Dames (Boston)
6) Rhode Island Riveters (Providence)
7) Steel City Derby Demons (Pittsburgh)
8) CT RollerGirls (Waterbury, Connecticut)
9) DC Rollergirls (Washington, D.C.)
10) Dominion Derby Girls (Hampton Roads, VA)

The bracket first pits #1 Gotham against #6 Providence at 2:45pm on Friday, September 11. The tournament concludes with its championship bout at 8pm on Sunday, September 13.

The Gotham Girls roll into Carolina riding a WFTDA-record sixteen bout winning streak. Earlier this season, the Gotham All-Stars defeated #3 Charm City, #4 Carolina, and #5 Boston. Expect each of these squads, along with #2 Philly, to bring their best game to the track to challenge Gotham for its East Region title.

The top three teams emerging from the brackets move on to the WFTDA National Tournament in Philadelphia, November 13-15.

Also with Eve, Jimmy Fallon, and Daniel Stern, along with a handful of WFTDA skaters as extras and stunt performers.
