SATURDAY JUNE 13 - MANHATTAN MAYHEM vs. QUEENS OF PAIN

Hunter College Sportsplex – Door 6:30 pm, Whistle 8:30 pm
The Gotham Girls welcome the summer derby season with a battle between the Manhattan Mayhem and the defending league champions, the Queens of Pain.

The Queens crew stumbled against the Bronx in their first bout of the season, while the Mayhem lineup looks to be its strongest in many years. Queens has dominated the Mayhem with victories in all six of the teams' previous showdowns, dating back to 2005. Could this finally be the bout when the Mayhem breaks the streak, or will the Queens of Pain revert to champion form?

Halftime entertainment will feature an exhibition of Murderball -- wheelchair rugby -- from the New York Warriors, and DJ Shakey will spin the music before and during the bout.

This faceoff takes place at the Hunter College Sportsplex, at the southwest corner of Lexington Ave and 68th Street in Manhattan, directly at the 68th street stop on the (6) subway line and near the (F) train stop at 63rd street.

The Hunter College Sportsplex is wheelchair-accessible; for specific questions about access, leave a message at the Gotham Girls hotline: (888) 830-2253.

The Manhattan Mayhem opened the 2009 campaign with a strong 121-93 statement over the Brooklyn Bombshells.

The evening at the Hunter College Sportsplex began with a presentation of the retired #11 jersey of original Bombshell Chassis Crass, who retired from skating at the end of the '08 campaign. Chassis was joined by fellow retired Brooklyn skaters Lil' Red Terror and Ariel Assault.

From the time they skated into the rink, the Brooklyn team had the audience constantly erupting in shouts and stomps while chanting, "Let’s go Brooklyn!" ... Even if my team didn’t win, the sheer force Manhattan played with floored me.

MAY 30 - MONTREAL'S FILLES DU ROIS 70, MEATPACKING DISTRICT 33
Meatpacking District at Montreal
Gotham's squad of rookies - The Meatpacking District - prior to Gotham's first battle on foreign soil
The Gotham Girls took off to the Great White North on May 30, when the Meatpacking District (Gotham's rookie class of 2009) ventured to Montreal to challenge the Filles du Rois in a 40-minute exhibition.

Eight GGRD rookies from the Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens rosters were joined by veterans Speed McQueen (Bronx), Julietta Vendetta (Manhattan), and transfer Carmen Monoxide (Brooklyn).

Many of the Gotham rookies had only skated in one previous public bout, and rarely together as a unified squad. The experienced Montreal team came out on top, 70-33, and after this learning experience, fans can expect to see a fiercer Meatpacking District in its next appearance, an exhibition against the rookies of the Philly Rollergirls (the "Philly Cheese Skates") on June 27 at the East Coast Derby Extravaganza (details below).
