Hunter College Sportsplex – Door 6:30 pm, Whistle 8:30 pm
The original two Gotham teams resume their storied five-season rivalry as the Manhattan Mayhem take on the Brooklyn Bombshells in a full-length battle for supremacy on the track.

The Bombshells bring eight exciting new teammates to the track, while the Mayhem aim to build on their two-bout winning streak. Will the shipmates from Brooklyn be able to lock down the Mayhem, or will the cunning convicts from Manhattan leave the Bombshells in dry dock? Watch the two founding teams of Gotham battle it out!

Halftime Entertainment will include a swingin' performance by the Big Apple Lindy Hoppers, and DJ Reaganomics will spin the music before and during the bout.

This faceoff takes place at the Hunter College Sportsplex, at the southwest corner of Lexington Ave and 68th Street in Manhattan, directly at the 68th street stop on the (6) subway line and near the (F) train stop at 63rd street.

The Hunter College Sportsplex is wheelchair-accessible; for specific questions about access, leave a message at the Gotham Girls hotline: (888) 830-2253.

The Bronx Gridlock opened the 2009 campaign with a strong 121-78 victory over last season's defending champs, the Queens of Pain.

The evening at the Hunter College Sportsplex began with a presentation of Queens' 2008 League Champion banner, unveiled by Queens mascot The Persuader and retired Queens skater Scarlett Rage. The Gridlock, however, were not intimidated, and the cabbies quickly rolled to a 46 point halftime lead. Queens recovered to narrowly win the second period, but the evening belonged to the ladies in checkers.

The capacity crowd was delighted at halftime by an unforgettable wild west roping and whipping performance by Chris McDaniel.

The more jams I saw, the more I got to know the players and marvel at the skills they displayed racing around each other, breaking through tough-looking blockers and weaving in and out of arms, legs and skates.

RECAP: MAY 2 - BROAD STREET BUTCHERS 132, QUEENS OF PAIN 82
Queens @ Philadelphia - photo by Akira Takahashi

The Queens of Pain traveled to Philadelphia on May 2nd for an opportunity to take on the Broad Street Butchers of the Philly Rollergirls in a friendly exhibition as the opening bout of the Philly season championship double-header. (The three Philly home teams began their local season schedule several months ago.)

Supported by loyal Gotham fans and The Royal Pains, but with star blocker Ana Bollocks managing from the sidelines due to a skating injury, the Queens of Pain and their four developing rookies were thrown into the fray against a strong Butcher squad. Jammers Suzy Hotrod and Hyper Lynx found early success, but the Queens packs were sliced in the second period by talented Butcher jammers Persephone and Elle Viento.

1st half 2nd half Total Points
Broad Street Butchers 53 79 132
Queens of Pain 47 35 82

Queens' next home bout is on June 13 as the ladies in black face a challenge from the Manhattan Mayhem.
