Real. Strong. Athletic. Revolutionary.
Founded in 2004, the WFTDA promotes and fosters the sport of women's flat track derby by facilitating the development of athletic ability, sportswomanship, and goodwill among member leagues. The governing philosophy is "by the skaters, for the skaters."
Women skaters are primary owners, managers, and operators of each member league and of the association. Operational tasks include setting standards for rules, seasons, and safety, and determining guidelines for the national and international athletic competitions of member leagues.
All member leagues have a voice in the decision-making process, and agree to comply with the governing body's policies.

The Gotham Girls have rolled to nine consecutive wins, and with just three more tournament victories, they'll be the WFTDA's undisputed champions! Our skaters need your help to make it happen. Gotham's All-Stars pay for all their own travel and housing when taking their game on the road.
Any support you can offer these gals will be deeply and humbly appreciated. The Gotham Girls will thank you in the only way they know how -- by kicking butt and showing the whole country that Gotham's skaters are the toughest, fastest, and fiercest in the nation!
So, to help the GGRD All-Stars in their quest for domination, go to http://www.gothamgirlsrollerderby.com/donate/ and give what you can. Be sure to write in the comment box "GO GOTHAM ALL-STARS!" to direct funds to our traveling ladies in red and black. Don't miss your chance to join the ranks of the 2009 Fresh Meat - GGRD's Next Recruit Class! |
Pictured above: GGRD's 2008 New Recruit Class (aka "Fresh Meat"), led by veterans Beyonslay (far left) and Cheapskate (far right) at the 2008 East Coast Extravaganza, where they handily defeated the Windy City Rollergirls' new recruit class (aka "Skater Tots")
When you watch bouts, is it all you can do not to jump on the track and join us? When you practice your skating do you picture yourself on the track with your future teammates? If so, it sounds like you are ready for tryouts!
The Gotham Girls Roller Derby announces tryouts for the 2009 season on Saturday, December 6th from 2pm to 6pm. We know that there are a ton of skills to work on before tryouts (and we totally understand having no place to skate), so GGRD wanted to lend a helping hand and offer some nights where you can come and have a little practice before tryouts.
Three remaining Skills Nights will be offered for future derby girls to come and polish their skating before tryouts.
When are the skills nights? - Friday, November 7th, from 7pm to 9pm - Wednesday, November 19th from 7pm to 9pm - Friday, December 5th from 7pm to 9pm
How much will Skills Nights cost?
$15 per night. Each Skills Night will be limited to 25 skaters (all are currently full, but we are keeping wait-lists). Try-outs, however are NOT full, so please don't let the capacity at Skills Nights discourage you from coming to try-outs! More info: Please read our FAQ page and then sign up for the skills nights here, and if you want to tryout, sign up here.
