Can you feel it? Forget "The Warriors"...the true battle for New York took place Saturday at Hunter College, as the Manhattan Mayhem faced off against the Bronx Gridlock in another week of Gotham Girls Roller Derby action. And Metromix was there!

| The Boogie-Down Delivers a Beat-Down
 In the 4th home game of the season, record-setting rookie jammer Em Dash escaped with 52 points for Manhattan, but it wasn't enough to put the brakes on Bronx, as the Gridlock ran over the Mayhem, 159-79. Bronx team captain Kandy Kakes took her team's game MVP honors by leading a bruising and aggressive defense. Boy, was this game one hell of a fierce crashing, smashing, derby fiesta!

The Manhattan Mayhem will try for a win against the Brooklyn Bombshells September 12th. With the victory over Manhattan, the 2-0 Bronx Gridlock clinched a spot in the championship game in October. There will be no rest for the cabbies, as they meet the Queens of Pain August 16 in a match-up against their rivals in the 2007 Championship game. Both teams are undefeated in 2008, but only one will remain so after August.

Both the Bronx Gridlock and the Queens of Pain are rolling into August's bout undefeated this season. The last time they skated against each other was at the 2007 Championship Bout, where the Gridlock snatched victory away from the Queens of Mean by just a few points in the last jam. Expect a good old fashioned grudge match, and buy your tickets now -- this is a bout you won't want to miss! For this exciting match-up, GGRD is introducing our first-ever official pre-party, 4-7pm at American Trash, 1471 1st Avenue between 76th and 77th, hosted by the GGRD Jeerleaders.
