The Bronx Gridlock vs. The Manhattan Mayhem
Manhattan, NY (July 10, 2008) -The Manhattan Mayhem - Gotham Girls Roller Derby's own convict femmes fatale - are ready to break out of their cell blocks and riot against their uptown taxi-driving nemeses, the Bronx Gridlock. Tire irons will fly as Manhattan and Bronx duke it out on skates on July 26th at the Hunter College Sportsplex at Lexington Avenue and 68th Street, Manhattan.
The Bronx Gridlock started the season strong with a 126-53 victory over the Brooklyn Bombshells. The ladies in checkers will be looking to keep the pedal to the metal to make roadkill of the rest of the league.
The Manhattan Mayhem will try to shake off their season opening 152-71 loss to the Queens of Pain on May 10th, and they have a plan to put a wrench in the Gridlock's plans for a second undefeated season. Mayhem, which boasts eight rookies on its roster of 13, brings an infectious level of enthusiasm to the track. Gotham fans should not forget that the reigning champion Gridlock debuted in 2006 as a team composed almost entirely of rookies - and after a rough start, the team quickly gelled to string together an undefeated 2007 campaign.
This year's GGRD rookies are the strongest incoming class yet. Only a few weeks ago, all 12 GGRD rookies, playing as the "Meatpacking District," took on the Chicago's Windy City Rollers' Rookies (the "Skater Tots") at the East Coast Extravaganza derby festival, skating to a decisive 62-17 victory in only 30 minutes. Not too shabby!
The Gridlock wants a repeat undefeated season. Could these jailbirds be the team to stuff the Bronx cabbies' tail pipes? Come to Hunter dressed in taxicab checkers or inmate orange and witness the carnage!
