Greetings!
Welcome to May, already! People with May birthdays (and some money) wear emeralds, grow Lily of the Valley, and use the word authenticity.
Actually, I made that last part up because authenticity is the subject of this month's newsletter. In keeping with this theme, I'm featuring one of my clients, Jennifer Waldron. She teaches people how to find and use their authentic voice. You can set up a complimentary coaching session with her to find out if your "voice image" is the real you.
And if you want to learn about how to market your business authentically, I'll be teaching a free teleclass in June, entitled "What Marketing is Right for your Personality?" I'm offering the same class on three different dates: June 11th, 18th, or 25th; 3:00-3:50 PM Pacific time.
Email me now to register--seats are limited.
Here's to an authentic month!
Love,
Christy Strauch

The Law of Authenticity
Using a puppet as part of my email newsletter marketing is a bit goofy. No argument there. I do it because sometimes the tone of my work can be serious, especially when I'm working with a client who is nervous about his numbers-- nervous being a code word for ashamed--or afraid. A puppet definitely lightens the mood. I also use puppets because they make me laugh.
The Puppet attracts some people and repels others. What it does best is signal to people what I'm like and what it's like to work with me.
Luckily for people like me who have a hard time being normal, being authentic and transparent about who I am in business turns out to be a smart marketing strategy.
The more authentic we are, the more clearly we signal to our perfect clients that we are indeed the ideal person/business to help them. Call this the Law of Authenticity.
If you aren't convinced of the wisdom of exposing your true self to your clients, check out these websites. Love or hate them, these people are totally transparent in their marketing. You know what you'll get if you hire them.
Fluent Self: Behind this business is a woman named Havi Brooks. Her business partner is a plastic duck. And she charges $485.00 per hour. And she has a wait list.
Seth Godin: This marketing person, Seth Godin, wrote a book called All Marketers are Liars. He even uses his bald head as a link on his blog. Godin is a pioneer in the "be who you really are" movement.
Get Known Now: Suzanne Falter-Barns teaches people how to access their authentic self. She preaches that the more authentic you are, the more likely mainstream media will want to talk to you. And talk about you.
Heart of Business: This site actually has the courage to discuss spirituality and business in the same sentence.
On my blog, you'll find other examples of businesses that dare to show their authentic selves to the world.
Here's my question to you: Is there something about the way you do business that is true to who you are? Perhaps your clients already know about this thing. But do your potential clients also know about it?
What is it about you that underlies everything you do? And are you making this one thing explicit in your communication to your perfect prospective clients? Even if you think some people might think it's goofy, weird, scary or "not done?" What would it take to start being completely authentic?
This month's tip will help you answer these questions. And if you'd like to learn more about marketing that fits your authentic self, email me to register for one of my free teleseminars on June 11th, 18th or 25th; 3:00-3:50 Pacific time.
What your mother taught you is true. We want you to be yourself.

TIP
The Authentic You
This month's tip? You guessed it: What's deeply authentic about you that you're not telling us? Go to your favorite place and think about the answer. Then email it to me. | |
Jen Waldron, PhD., teaches people how to use their authentic voices. In her words:
"I have always believed that there is nothing wrong with a person's speaking voice or style. There are only unexplored characteristics. The capacity to express wildly is in all of us. It's not about being stilted and following someone else's rules.
Speaking with your real and authentic voice means awakening the nitty-gritty parts of who you are and how you sound. In my coaching, I help people expand and explore what needs to be "wildly expressed" in their voice and style.
The authenticity of your voice can portray you in powerful ways. Is your voice image--what I call the acoustic image--the real you?
To find out more about your acoustic image and schedule your complimentary, fifteen-minute consultation, please email me at jenwaldron@comcast.net."
