Greetings!
The puppet and I have given up on it ever cooling down here in sunny Phoenix. As we sit down to write this issue of Make It Real, it's a sizzling 110 degrees outside.
Last month, we talked about the difference between being an introvert and extravert and the effects each of those traits have on you, your business and your clients. This time, we talk about the difference between people who use thinking to make decisions and people who use feeling (a standard Myers-Briggs classification).
I also want to remind you about the business plan workshop in Phoenix in September. We'll meet four Monday evenings from 4-7:30 beginning September 22nd. Get more details here.
Thank you for reading. Thank you even more for applying the ideas to help your business thrive.
If you or someone you know wants to prosper doing the work they love, please send them to me for a free consultation.
In service,
Christy Strauch 602-561-8499

If you are a thinker, you make decisions based on rational grounds. You would pick one company to do business with over another one because they had more credentials, more certifications, were less expensive, had more locations, or because of other logical, verifiable reasons.
If you're a feeler, you make decisions based on your values and with other people and their welfare uppermost in your mind. Thus, if you were looking to choose a company to work with, you would base your decision on the values of the company, how they treated their employees, and how you felt when you were around them.
You can see the conflict here. Thinkers say feelers are subjective, inconsistent and might even call them people-pleasers. Feelers say thinkers have no heart, don't take people into consideration, and might even call them cold or unfeeling.
It's good to know where you fall on the thinking-feeling continuum--it's even better to know where your clients fall. North American society is split fairly evenly between thinkers and feelers, so your marketing needs to address both types.
Do you talk about the objective, verifiable criteria about you and your company in your marketing materials? Do you communicate the demonstrable results your clients get from working with you? Do you list the certifications you or your staff have? Do you talk about your low failure rate or high production rate? If you sell to thinkers, you need to address these issues in your marketing.
For your feeling clients, do you talk about how you treat your employees, what causes you support, how it will feel to do business with you (comfortable, of course), what your values are, and how you are true to them?
Take a look at your marketing and see if you're addressing both types of people. Email me and tell me what you discovered.

TIP OF THE MONTH
Take yourself out for a quiet cup of coffee or tea and figure out if you use rational criteria (a Thinker) or values and people-orientation (a Feeler) to make decisions. Once you know who you are, look at your clients.
Do your clients need to know objective criteria about you to decide whether to do business, or do they want to know about your values and how you interact with people? Whether you cater to thinkers, feelers, or both, does your marketing address the way all your prospective customers make decisions? Email me and tell me what you discover.
