A Christmas Prayer

By way of Bethlehem lead us, O Lord, to newness of life;
by the innocence of the Christ Child renew our simple trust;
by the tenderness of Mary deliver us from cruelty and hardness of heart;
by the patience of Joseph save us from all rash judgment and ill-tempered action;
by the shepherds' watch open our eyes to the signs of thy coming;
by the music of the heavenly choir put to shame the clamor of the earth.
by the shining of a star guide our feet in the way of peace.

by Theodore Parker Ferris 1908-1972, from Give Us Grace

Youth Needed

General Convention 2012We're headed into the New Year and there is something very special that you might be able to do in 2012.  General Convention (GC) is the "business meeting" of the entire Episcopal church.  It's an amazing and important event.  And every time it meets (every three years) there is a group of youth there to be the voice of the younger generation to the church.  That group is called the General Convention Official Youth Presence (GCOYP).  It's made up of 2 high school aged young people (age 16 or older) from each Province.  Province 2 (that's our province) is searching for the young people to represent us at GC.  Please consider applying.  You can apply online HERE through January 15 (scroll down to the paragraph that starts "Each applicant must complete...").  You must be able to commit to all the days of a 4 day training session April 12-15 and General Convention July 5-12.  ALL EXPENSES ARE COVERED FOR BOTH THE TRAINING AND THE CONVENTION.  And that means ALL of your expenses, travel, food, room, fees and materials.  Please read through the information and think about applying.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Episcopal News Service (ENS)
As many of you know from the previous newsletter, ENS has a brand new website.  If you missed the first news release, here it is.

From Matthew Davies:
This is a very exciting moment in our communication ministry. The new site will help us to be more timely and comprehensive in our news gathering, and it brings ENS up-to-date in the social media world. Please take a moment to navigate the new site and let us know what you think.

We have tried to ensure that the changeover runs as smoothly as possible. However, there is one change that might affect some external websites - we have had to abandon the old JavaScript headline feed and replace it with RSS feeds that are compatible with the new publishing platform. If your site has been using the old headline feed, we would encourage you to inform your web administrator to switch to one of our new feeds available at http://episcopaldigitalnetwork.com/ens/rss-2.

While the old feed will continue to work for some time, the articles will no longer be updated.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience as we work through this transition.

One last word - we are now much better equipped to tell the church's story and we want to hear from you. Please send your news stories, press releases, notices and any other interesting tidbits to news@episcopalchurch.org.

If you are responsible for handling the news feed on a website and need to make these changes, you  should not have too much trouble as long as you are using a content management system like Drupal or Wordpress.  Those of you who have html pages that you maintain will need to find an RSS reader to use.  There are a number of free reader systems available on the internet.  The ENS headlines on the Province II website are done using the Yahoo version.
