| Greetings! |
As I write this, we are into All Soul's Day, although I had intended this to go out on Halloween. The weird weather here in the northeast really hit my area hard and I'm sure many of you had a similar experience of no power or heat for several days.
As a result of the lateness of this issue, the next one will probably be early December. If you have an article or event to submit, please make sure I have it by November 30. Jan

From the Diocese of New York...
| Due to the heavy snow on Saturday, October 29, the coadjutor election in the Diocese of New York was postponed until November 19. This will make the election an additional item in the agenda of the diocese's annual convention. The election has its own website at nybishopsearch2011.org/. Follow the results of the election on Twitter @Dioceseny, or on the diocesan Facebook page. |
From the Diocese of Albany...
| Many sections of Province II have been hard hit by the storms and flooding that have occurred in the last several months. In particular, regions in the Diocese of Albany have seen families and communities devastated by these disasters. Episcopal Relief and Development has come forward with help, along with other agencies and individuals. Bishop Love has sent out a pastoral letter to the diocese. All of us can find words of hope and healing in this letter, which might well have been sent to the whole province. The full letter can be found in the Fall 2011 issue of the Albany Episcopalian. Finding And Sharing God's Peace In The Midst of Life's Storms
...It is easy in the midst of chaos, tragedy and great loss (such as that caused by 9/11 or more recently by the storms and floods and ever growing world-wide economic crisis) to fall into a state of depression, fear, hopelessness, despair, withdrawal, anger or a whole host of other thoughts and feelings - all of which are very natural, and yet all of which can be quite deadly. That is not what the Lord wants for us. On that first Easter night, after conquering the power of sin and death, Jesus went to the disciples who were hiding in fear behind locked doors, confused and uncertain about the future. His message to them is His message to us: "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you... Receive the Holy Spirit." (John 20:21-22) Throughout the Gospel, in times of fear, uncertainty and great loss, Jesus repeatedly says, "Do not be afraid!" "Peace be with you!"...

From the Diocese of the Virgin Islands...
| All Saints Cathedral School proudly announces the infusion of student music in weekly chapel services.
With the new school year, there have been many changes to the chapel services at All Saints Cathedral School (ASCS).
There has been an infusion of live music provided by ASCS students during the weekly Middle and High School chapel services. Students practice weekly with instructor, Mr. Albert Lynch, to master the hymns sung during the services. Mr. Lynch provides drum, keyboards, and voice training to allow the students to become more active in chapel.
In addition to the Episcopal service, the students are exposed to and taught tolerance for other religious beliefs. Recently, one of our many Hindu students opened the service by sharing a short excerpt from the Bhagavad Gita, followed by a moment of silence. In the near future, we hope to have a similar presentation by a student of Muslim faith.
The Right Reverend E. Ambrose Gumbs, Bishop of the Diocese of the Virgin Islands is pleased that the students have become more active in the chapel services. He applauds the efforts of ASCS and hopes that the enthusiasm being displayed will continue for years to come. |

Check out a new blog -subversivepreacher
Subversion n. overthrow, undermining, sabotage; see defeat, revolution. Preach vt. to urge as by preaching
This blog is for anyone that has lost patience with moralistic, boring, unimaginative, thick-headed, bookish, lame, self-interested, dogmatic or otherwise ridiculously uninteresting sermons. The muse at this site is a heartworm, one that will crawl inside and over time, week after week, eat away at the domesticated Christianity and generally puny spirituality of American religion. |
From the Diocese of Rochester....
| Opening Our Gifts: Redefining Ministry of All Disciples within the Episcopal Diocese of Rochester
Nan Crystal Arens On a blustery October Saturday, about 100 members of the Episcopal Diocese of Rochester gathered to explore and celebrate the ministry of all disciples in a day-long conference. Opening Our Gifts was designed to be the first exchange in an ongoing dialog that will help all baptized people to redefine and emancipate ministry within the church and the world.
The day, hosted by St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Bath, kicked off with a keynote address by the Hon. Byron Rushing, a legislator in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Throughout his career, Rushing strives to live his Christian faith through witness and political action, an approach some might not immediately identify as "ministry." Read more ...
Although the conference has concluded, Opening Our Gifts continues though an ongoing conversation surrounding the ministry of all disciples. Perhaps ministry is not merely the faithful worship and good work we do in church. Christ offers to transform every task that we do and every interaction that we have. With this view of ministry, we become Christ's instruments to transform the world.

Healing workshops offered...
| Christ the King Spiritual Life Center (CtK) is committed to obeying the call of the Lord just as it is described in the scriptures. Jesus was going through all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness. Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd. Matthew 9: 35-36 Jesus instructed his 12 disciples, "And as you go, preach saying, 'The Kingdom of heaven is at hand.' Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give." Matthew 10: 7-8 There is nothing more powerful than receiving or witnessing the transforming and healing power of Jesus Christ in our midst today. What a joy and privilege it is to be workers for the harvest and to share Christ's amazing love and healing power with others. Francis & Judith MacNutt founded Christian Healing Ministries in 1981 and they have been sharing their experience and knowledge, teaching others how to 'Listen, Love, and Pray' and to heal by the power of the Holy Spirit. Christ the King Spiritual Life Center is a unique retreat facility in the US dedicated to following and advancing Jesus' healing ministry. Under the direction of the Rev. Nigel Mumford, the School of Healing Prayer (SHP) offers 3 class levels throughout the year, based on the MacNutt's healing ministry. In small groups, biblically-based teaching, discussion and prayer time is facilitated by trained and experienced members of our Healing Ministry Prayer Team. We offer both intensive (4-day overnight programs) and commuter classes (on 4 consecutive Sundays) to accommodate your schedule needs. SHP Level 4 is coming in 2012. Beautiful lodging and excellent dining services await your arrival at CtK so you can come and have a mini-retreat while you are learning. As of this year, the Lord began sending our Healing Ministry Prayer Team out to other locations to bring the training to new areas. Contact us to learn more about this exciting opportunity. 2011 Classes are available at CtK as follows: Nov. 13, Nov. 20, Nov. 27, Dec. 4, SHP, Level 2, Commuter Classes Please visit our website for the 2012 Schedule at www.ctkcenter.org or contact Brenda Reid at 518-692-9550 x 112 |
