The New Chair of the Youth Ministry Network Jay Phillippi, Youth Missioner in the Diocese of Western New York, has accepted the position of Youth Ministry Network Chair for Province II. He is just back from EYE (Episcopal Youth Event) and in the middle of camp season in Western New York. We can look forward to a story from him in the September issue of In Prov 2. | On May 26, the Office of Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori notified the Diocese of Haiti that the required majority of consents in the canonical consent process have been received. As outlined under Canon III.11.4 (a), the Presiding Bishop confirmed the receipt of consents from a majority of bishops with jurisdiction, and has also reviewed the evidence of consents from a majority of standing committees of the Church sent to her by the diocesan standing committee.
The Bishop Suffragan will assist Bishop Duracin as he serves the needs of the people and clergy of the diocese, the largest diocese in the Episcopal Church, which continues to recover from a devastating January 2010 earthquake.

Sharing Our Story
| We're now in the long season after Pentecost and our church vestments are the green of life and growth. This is the time of the church year when our Gospel readings and our worship center on vocation, evangelism, missions, stewardship, alms giving, and other works of mercy and charity as ways in which Christ empowers us by His grace to share the Gospel with others.
How do we do this sharing? How can we get our stories out there? Many congregations and dioceses still have newsletters, print or electronic, which can be used for things other than announcements of rummage sales and Fish 'n Chips dinners. But did you know that the Episcopal News Service is still interested in your stories? And that they are sharing stories from around the world? Yes, the wrap-around newspaper has been eliminated, but ENS is alive and well! Here are some things you might consider.
The Episcopal News Service wants your stories!
ENS offers in-depth reporting and analysis of local, regional, national and international news for Episcopalians and others interested in the church's mission and ministry and they are looking to you to help provide it. ENS welcomes submissions, including live event coverage, news stories and feature articles. Contact an ENS editor before submitting your story to discuss relevance, the appropriate angle, word count, deadline and photo opportunities. All of the necessary information is on their web site at www.ecusa.anglican.org/78650_80431_ENG_HTM.htm.
They are especially looking for the following categories of stories:
General news - Stories must have churchwide interest and/or impact and be timely. Stories in the general category may cover a number of topics, including but not limited to: trends, innovations, evangelism, the church's response to current events, mission work, ecumenism, advocacy, peace and justice, social justice, environment, science, technology, women's issues, the Millennium Development Goals, employment, popular culture, etc.
Diocesan Digest - News from dioceses and parishes around the Episcopal Church that appeals to a wider audience: stories about what makes your ministry/approach unique, particular insights and regional peculiarities.
People - News about prominent religious figures known at the regional, national and international level, including, for example, Episcopal and Anglican bishops, ecumenical leaders, Episcopal Church Center staff, recognized national contributors and prominent public figures.
Commentary and Opinion - Commentary and opinion pieces that provide thoughtful analysis, insight and/or understanding about the church and the world -with emphasis on the church's place in it-from experts and/or people close to the issues are also sought. All submissions must include a digital head shot photo of the author.
This link will give you a pdf of the complete guidelines for submission: www.episcopalchurch.org/documents/ENS_submissionguidelines.pdf
How do you find and share the stories of others?
Does your website include the links to the news of the wider church? It is easy to get the code that will enable you to add the ENS headlines (and links to the stories) to your website Go to www.ecusa.anglican.org/78650_23458_ENG_HTM.htm and the code for several varieties is provided. You can find information about an RSS feed at www.ecusa.anglican.org/78650_23473_ENG_HTM.htm.
Individuals or congregations can have the latest information from the wider church delivered to their own e-mail by going to www.ecusa.anglican.org/78650_23228_ENG_HTM.htm and subscribing tho the e-mail list in English or Spanish.
All the stories are not in print format!
Episcopal News Service Video is available at www.ecusa.anglican.org/80056_ENG_HTM.htm. Here you will find the stories that the staff of ENS has put together. Today the featured stories are: Bonnie Anderson urges you..., An Episcopal Youth Event, Colombian refugees..., Abundant lif is Ghana..., and several of the Presiding bishop's sermons. Additionally, at that same URL, are several image galleries.
And are you using your Facebook page?
Many congregations and dioceses have established Facebook pages and then wonder why they did so. Social media is the latest thing, however, it requires constant tending or it serves no purpose. Your page must be publicized so that your members and friends will know to look for it and how to find it. Once they get there, they need to be encouraged to subscribe or at least "like" the page so that they see posts to the page. Then someone (or several someones) needs to post to the page frequently. Some hints about how to make your page more active can be found in the online article "16 Ways To Get More Comments On Your Facebook Page". You may also be able to find some help at "39 Questions Your Nonprofit Can Answer with Facebook Insights".
This newsletter
Finally, this newsletter, the In Prov 2, is published electronically with 3 "big" issues a year and smaller issues, like this one, about once a month. The purpose of the In Prov 2 is to share what is happening in the provincial networks and within the eleven dioceses of the province with everyone in the province. It is specifically not to be a reprint of ENS stories. So send in your news and photos! The newletter deadline for submissions for the "big" issue in September is September 16, 2011. Submission information is at the bottom of this newsletter. |
| The next In Prov 2 will be out at the end of September. The deadline for articles/events/information to be included in that issue is Friday, September 16, 2011. Send your information to webeditor@province2.org.
