We are heading into my favorite time of year FALL! I've got my cast net ready for shrimp, my bow and favorite broadheads are dialed in for deer, and my boat is ready for fishing if we have any "extra" time. Please pray for Ironman as we have 6 retreats lined up this fall. I also get the honor of speaking to men at the following events:
- Sept. 19-20 - SC Baptist Convention - Camp McCall
- Sept. 22 - Men's Event at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church -near Georgetown, SC
- Sept. 27 - Wild Game Dinner at Foreman Baptist Church - New Ellenton, SC

| What Story Are You Telling? |
One of the mantras of Ironman Outdoors is "there's power in our stories." Sure we love a good "tailgate story" about the buck that got away or the "would-be" state record fish that broke the line right at the boat. But we also go to great lengths to get men to open up and tell their stories. Not stories of their success, but rather stories of their failure. It seems like I remember a guy in the Bible who was also a master story-teller. As a father of 3 young boys, I often think strategically about the stories that I tell my boys. I not only want these stories to be amusing and hold their attention, but I also want the story to shape my boys and mold them into the young men that I hope they will become. | First Impressions of an Ironman Retreat |
By: Lou Burch
Patrick Tyndall works down the hall from me, which provides plenty of opportunities to hear about Ironman Outdoor Ministries. Perhaps "works" is too generous to describe what he actually does. The times I go down there to visit, he's usually shuffling papers, moving thick binders from one side of his desk to the other, and talking about hunting. I don't believe in reincarnation, but if I ever get to come back as another person, I hope it will be Patrick. To read the rest of this article click here.

| Shrimping in Bulls Bay |
God has blessed us once again with full coolers of shrimp from Bulls Bay! Our Sept. 12-14, 2008 shrimping retreat was a huge success. 11 guys gathered for this retreat at a beach house at the Isle of Palms. We enjoyed great weather, great fellowship, great shrimping, and most importantly "being real" with other men! Our manhood discussions were candid, honest, and transparent. Our prayer is that each man returned home with a right relationship with God and ready to be a better father and husband!

| Make Sept. 26th Date Night! |
Guys...here's the 11th commandment for strengthening your marriage..."remember the date night and keep it holy!" Yes, you actually must continue to date your wife! I know some of you can't even pick a restaurant...so I'm going to make it easy for you. Take her to a special place for dinner....for Sheron and I that is Olive Garden, because our first date some 13 years ago occurred at an Olive Garden restaurant in Chapel Hill, NC. Then after dinner, take your wife to a movie. The movie "Fireproof" comes out in theaters on Sept. 26th. This film comes from Sherwood Baptist Church in Georgia...the makers of "Facing the Giants." Wouldn't it be great if the #1 movie at the box office was produced by a Baptist Church and NOT HOLLYWOOD! Perhaps the Bible would call that living in the world but not of the world!
