FEEDBACK CORNER
| |
The workshop is like diving into a pool of oxygen and love. I could finally breathe, I found my voice and found clarity about many things in my life....from childhood to the present! I left with a sense of empowerment like I've never known and I still carry it with me, along with tools Soltura gave me for living my life each day in the most conscious and loving way. This shines on everyone around me and I now see, months after leaving the workshop, that seeds were planted during those amazing 4 days that are now beginning to blossom!
I now have a new & sacred understanding and connection with myself that was unknown before Soltura. I am excited to be sending my teenage daughter to Part 1 this summer and I will be heading back for Part 2! Soltura is years worth of therapy rolled up into just a few days -- it is the sweetest gift and the smallest sacrifice I ever gave myself! The time spent there has changed me and my life forever.

Soltura Attends NATSAP Annual Conference
| Networking with Therapeutic Programs
In January, Soltura attended the annual conference of the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP) to network with placement professionals. Member programs of this association provide services to young people facing emotional and behavioral difficulties. But we know that when a teen is struggling with these challenges, it affects the entire family...and once the young person is safe and getting help, the parent often thinks, "What about me?" Soltura is interested in collaborating with these programs by making our workshops available to the parents of teens in placement. Though we have attended previous conferences, this is the first time we had a booth and were able to really heighten awareness about our services. We were also fortunate to have several workshop participants with us who have also had to face the challenge of a struggling teenager. They were able to speak directly to program representatives about their Soltura experience. As a result, several programs expressed interest in collaborating with Soltura and we have been busy with follow-up meetings, conference calls, and visits. Many thanks to Roger, Corky, Jana, Leslie, Alix and Steve Buckley who attended the conference and helped spread the word about Soltura. Also, a very special thank you to Glenn and his team at Stephen Joseph Inc. for creating our booth display. Your generosity made the event a true success! Thank you! |

Celebrating Our Volunteers
Last June a special group of women came together for the Caught in a Twister workshop. They came together as mothers, each with a teen struggling with a range of challenges. Among that group was Leslie Craver. Following that workshop, Leslie voiced a desire to get involved with Soltura--to do whatever was necessary to help facilitate workshops in the future, to talk to other women about her experience ...anything. And, she has done just that! Leslie has served as a reference for other mothers who were considering participation in a workshop and, most recently, she traveled to Tucson, Arizona to help with the Soltura booth at the NATSAP conference (see separate article above). At the conference, Leslie also introduced Soltura to representatives of In Balance Ranch where her son attends. Having completed her second workshop, Leslie is looking forward to facilitating a Twister workshop for the first time this summer. We send a huge THANK YOU to Leslie and all of our volunteers who are always willing, with open hearts, to go above and beyond what is asked of you to help others along their path to personal freedom. Our workshops prove to be a unique, special experience, time and time again, because of the work you all put into them.

New Staff Member On Board
|
Carole gets some help Angela Frasier, Program Coordinator, joined Soltura in January and now handles a variety of tasks, including assisting participants with registration, taking care of a wide variety of administrative duties, and helping Soltura grow. Angela recently relocated to the Puget Sound area from Southern California where she was employed at Camp Pendleton managing the Arts and Crafts Hobby shop. She was credited with significantly expanding the services offered to service members and their families. Angela brings a broad set of skills to the team, providing a much needed complement to Carole. Her "can-do" willingness to take care of any task is refreshing and a welcome addition to Soltura. Angela shares, "I've never worked with a kinder group of people - this is an amazing job, and I am so grateful." Feel free to contact Angela anytime at angela@soltura.net or (253) 514-6097.

Summer FUNdraiser 2011
| Join us at Lakebay
We are making big plans to gather at Lakebay on Saturday, August 27th for a day of fun, food, and fundraising for Soltura. The good news is that you are all invited! So mark your calendars, save the date, and stay tuned for further details. There will be time for kayaking and other outdoor activities, time for listening to live music, time to relax with friends old and new...and a silent auction, in person and online! We want the auction to be really special and reflective of our community, so if anyone has something to donate to the auction, please contact Angela. We know there are some talented artists and photographers out there who may be willing to share their creations. How about airline miles? Or, maybe you would be willing to donate a weekend at your summer cabin or ski condo that could be auctioned off to someone for a special weekend...we can only dream! So put on your thinking cap, do you have something to contribute to our auction? We hope you plan to join us in August. It will be fun! |

Carole's Corner
| A few of my favorite things...
Many of you have asked what I'm reading, watching, or listening to...so here are a few favorites that are on my radar right now. Reading: Everything by Paulo Cohelo, love the way he writes and makes me wonder. Also, Tao Te Ching is back on my bedside table. Reading it with a new set of eyes. Watching: Besides "American Idol"? The movie, Black Swan has rocked my world of Love and Fear. I compare it to Fight Club but for women. Make sure you see it with a friend with whom you can process the many metaphors. Listening: Michael Franti is the man in my life right now. Favorite single song is "The Cave" by Mumford and Sons. Several workshop participants recommended this song...Thank You! I am always looking for music, book and movie suggestions, so feel free to send your suggestions my way. |
