| THOUGHTS ON GRATITUDE |
Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.
- Melody Beattie
Gratitude ...
goes beyond the "mine" and "thine" and claims the truth that all of life is a pure gift. In the past I always thought of gratitude as a spontaneous response to the awareness of gifts received, but now I realize that gratitude can also be lived as a discipline. The discipline of gratitude is the explicit effort to acknowledge that all I am and have is given to me as a gift of love, a gift to be celebrated with joy.
- Henri J.M. Nouwen

Greetings!
It's hard to believe that 2007 is almost over and it is the start of the holiday season. Soltura has made great strides this year and it is wonderful to be in our new home in the Northwest. Next year we want to expand our workshop offerings into new areas and reach even more people. Our 2008 workshop schedule is ready to go so be sure to check it out.
In this time of Thanksgiving we are truly thankful for our Soltura family and deeply appreciate all of you who helped spread the word, volunteered to facilitate, and contributed in so many other ways.
Happy Thanksgiving! |
| Couples Workshop, Anyone? |
|
The Next Step for Partners |
"I will gain more understanding when I realize that when I withhold the truth of who I am, I cannot receive the truth of what I want. In our relationships, we want fulfillment, passion and intimacy, yet we withhold from our partners the very thing we want to experience: intimacy." Iyanla Vanzant
Does any part of the above statement resonate with you? If so, you may find interest in a Soltura workshop dedicated to your marriage or exclusive relationship. Since we began offering the workshops for men and women several years ago, one question continues to be asked: "When are you going to offer a couples workshop?" Guess what? It's getting closer, but first we need to hear more from you.
Let us know today if a couples workshop is something in which you are interested. If yes, what topics would you like to see addressed? Where do you get stuck in your relationship? What goals do you have as a couple that are difficult to achieve? Do you let your partner see the "true" you? What other issues come to mind?
Carole Rosenberg, along with workshop facilitator and mental health counselor Kayce Hughlett, welcomes your input as we consider the development of this workshop. Eligible participants are those where (a) both partners have completed at least Part One of the mens or womens workshop trilogy and (b) the partners are committed to working together openly and willingly.
Please let us know your level of interest and the topics you would like to see addressed. E-mail us at info@soltura.net. We look forward to hearing from you. |
| Celebrating the Age of Wisdom |
|
And the "Young at Heart" Women in our Lives
"... We get to a certain age, and then the rest of our lives we do everything we can to get back to the way we were when we were young ... using wisdom to come back to innocence." - Kate Bush
Several of you have asked about your own mothers and grandmothers participating in a Soltura workshop. The wheels are turning at Soltura to develop just that and we would like to offer an experience for them in 2008. If you know of any woman (age 60 and over) who is interested in honoring this amazing time of her life by getting to really know herself, acknowledging the meaning her life has had and what purpose she now has, please let us know. The workshop will be designed to be less physical and a member of our Soltura family, who also happens to be an MD, will help facilitate. If you have any suggestions on what you think should be covered, we are all ears. |
| Welcome Carolyn to the Soltura Family |
|
Now we all know that Carole Rosenberg, Executive Director, has been trying real hard to handle the Soltura administrative duties - send out registration packets, answer email inquiries about Soltura, make copies of forms and more. But we also know, it really isn't her "thing." Yes, she tries to enjoy being in the office and taking care of the day to day tasks, but admittedly she has to work at it. So it is with great relief that we welcome Carolyn Mafteiu, who joined the Soltura "family" in October, as Carole's assistant in the Gig Harbor office.
Although raised in Florida, Carolyn relocated to the Pacific Northwest last April, by way of Springfield, Missouri and Sharon, Connecticut. Winters in Washington might prove to be a challenge! Carolyn has two grandchildren that live in Florida. If she is not off visiting them she is at the barn riding her horse "Sweet Pea" or hiking and boating with her husband.
Carolyn is in the office Monday through Friday, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. PST. Please introduce yourself when you call the office and help make her feel welcome. |

Pay it Forward
Many of you have asked how you can "Pay it Forward" and "Keep the Dream Alive." We appreciate your generosity, enthusiasm and heart-felt compassion. As the loving spirit of the Soltura family grows we recognize the things we need to keep the legacy moving forward.
For those who have inquired, hopefully you find this list helpful:
- Review our 2008 calendar and talk to your family, friends, and co-workers about starting their own heroic journey by attending a Soltura workshop.
- Give the gift of a Soltura workshop to someone as a Birthday / Christmas present. Inquire about how to send a Soltura gift card.
- Donate to the new tax-deductable Soltura Foundation Funds (when final approval is received):
Pay It Forward Scholarship Fund - help interested participants with their workshop tuition payment.
Keeping The Dream Alive Fund -- help us purchase supplies and equipment essential to our operations so we can ensure that participants are comfortable and that their basic needs are being met. One of our priorities is to purchase a used Suburban to transport participants.
- Donate inspirational books and music to the Participant Library.
- Recommend books, music and movies for our online stores.
- Send in simple healthy recipes for our Menu Book.
- Send in personal writings and photos to be shared through SolturaOnline.
- Donate inspirational birthday cards to our new "Celebration of Life" collection.
- Stay connected with your Soltura brothers and sisters.
- Send your prayers and positive energy.

Soltura offers personal growth workshops for men and women, young people and adults. Our participants range from people who are struggling with a new challenge in their life to folks who realize their life is not as fullfilling as they had envisioned it. We strive to help participants reconnect with their inner strengths, face life issues and find meaningful ways to move forward. It is not uncommon for several members of a family to engage in the Soltura journey - always individually, not together in the same workshop - thereby providing a common language and frame of reference for communication and discussion of challenges facing the family.
We have also found that by participating in the Soltura trilogy of workshops, our clients meet new people who almost without exception become close friends and a great support network.
Soltura workshops are a personal experience. Not sure our workshops are for you? Contact us at (253) 857-3444 or by e-mail at info@Soltura.net. Let's talk about your situation or your concern and determine together whether Soltura is right for you.
