Greetings!

The Walking Lunge is one of the best exercises you can do for your lower body.  However, if done incorrectly (which I see happening often), it can lead to injury.

The lunge will work most of the muscles in your legs, including your quadriceps, hamstrings, glutes , and calves.  To perform a lunge properly:

1.       Step forward with one foot.  Bend both knees so that your front knee is aligned over the ankle and the back knee comes close to the floor.  Your back heel should be lifted off the floor.  It is imperative that you do not let your front knee go past your toe as it puts unnecessary strain on the knee.

2.

Before your back knee touches the floor, push up through the heel of the front foot, while bringing your feet together.

3.

Repeat the exercise with the other leg.

As great of an exercise as this is, please contact your physician before attempting the lunge if you have ever had any knee problems.aspen leaf

The attached video demonstrates how to properly perform the walking lunge.  Also, feel free to consult with any of our personal trainers to ensure that you are doing the exercise correctly.

ASPEN Warrior Run

Presented by Aspen Athletic Clubs & Sleepy Hollow Sports Park

AWR - Warrior Run LogoIf you go back 150 years, Sleepy Hollow was the sight of an Indian Village. Located right by a stream with plenty of game in the hills, lots of wood for shelter and fire, and, nestled behind a hill for a natural hideaway from the elements.

With this in mind, we have created the MOST CHALLENGING RACE in Des Moines. It will test your ability to withstand elements, grueling terrain and ridiculous obstacles. Finishing this race will be a testament to your endurance, winning will elevate you to the same class as the warriors who used to call Sleepy Hollow home. Plus, if you win, you will receive a glorified hatchet, that will look awesome on your wall, or above your fireplace.

The race has been scheduled for Saturday, August 27th.  Stayed tuned for more information via Aspen's Website & Facebook Page.

You DO NOT Want To
Miss This Race!

In observance of Independence Day, we will be open

Aspen
's Tennis Club Championship -

It was way fun!

If you missed out on the Club Championship, there is always next year!  We are planning to have our Aspen Club Championship the second week of June next year as well.  Although summer is busy, it seems that this may be the best time to accommodate most players without conflicting with much of USTA and other play.  So...plan on it now!

Thanks to all the players who made the 2011 Tennis Club Championship a success!  In the end, we had 80 players.  The more our members participate, the more others will follow suit and we're very optimistic that next year will be bigger, better and even more fun!  Our goal is to have every category/event have at least 6-8 doubles teams and 6 singles participants next year.  This would be more than most tournaments get in Iowa.

We had some great food and some really fun tennis.  I've attached the results from the Club Championship and these are also posted at Aspen.  Check out the list and see if someone you play with took home some hardware!

Thanks again!  We have really fun, great sports here at Aspen!

9 Aspen Teams competed at Districts

What great representation Aspen had at Districts this weekend!  There were 9 teams from Aspen.  Yes...that is 9 out of the 26 that participated!   Congratulations to all the teams and their teammates!  This really bodes well for the players, the pro staff and the Aspen facility.   Six out of the 9 teams that played at Districts will be advancing to sectional play.  Congrats!

Aspen Season Courts

 * Great Courts now available for the 2011/2012 Season!

There are still a few primo time slots available for season courts if you have a group of players that is interested.  Season courts provide you with guaranteed court time.  These courts "trump" all others.  We schedule around season courts for USTA play, tournaments, TU (Tennis Unlimited), clinics, etc...  If you want a guaranteed time to play, season court is the way to go.  I've attached the forms that give you all the info on season courts as well.  If you have any further questions, certainly shoot Gary or me an email or give us a call.
