Greetings!  

 

About 3 months ago, I decided it was time for me to get in better shape for the upcoming USTA mixed doubles tennis season.  Because I firmly believe that moderation is the key to success when it comes to your health and fitness, I made only minor, not excessive or extreme, changes to my eating and exercise habits. 

When I started this "quest" I weighed 208 pounds.  I lost a total of 15 pounds during this period and am now down to 193 which is just a couple of pounds more than what I weighed when I graduated from college 30 plus years ago.  I have another 4 or 5 pounds that I want to lose and plan to be there within another month.

So what did I do to lose the weight? 

·      First, I needed a goal and a motivator to help me reach that goal, which in my case was to get in better shape for the upcoming USTA tennis mixed doubles season so I could play better tennis. 

·    Second, I upped my exercise level slightly by playing tennis one more time per week and walking our dog Lacey whenever the weather was decent.

·    Last, I improved my eating habits by eating a bit healthier at dinner and then snacking on fruit, instead of cheese and crackers, after dinner.  As my friends will attest to, I have enjoyed a glass or two of wine or beer during this time so I have continued to eat and drink the things I enjoy.aspen leaf

 

If you need to lose weight, I highly recommend you make only minor changes to your eating and exercise habits.   The change in my weight and level of fitness is the result of losing just more than a pound per week.  Practice moderation, be patient, and give your body time to slowly adjust and you will be amazed at the changes you can accomplish over the next few months.
