Healthy Holidays
The holiday season is rapidly approaching. No matter how and what we celebrate, there are usually favorite foods that start to appear during this time of year. Unfortunately, most of these foods are high in calories and lead to an increase in weight.
Although recent research indicates that the average person only gains 1-2 pounds during this period, the problem is that we tend to hang onto that weight and then pick up another couple of pounds the next year. Next thing we know, we have an extra 10-20 pounds that we are carrying and would like to lose.
During the next few newsletters, I will discuss ways that we can control our weight during the upcoming holiday season, yet still enjoy our favorite holiday foods. These tips will center around our eating habits, particularly at parties, how not to overeat while shopping, and using exercise to combat the unwanted pounds.
Trying to lose weight during the holiday season is probably not a realistic goal for most of us. Instead, we should focus on maintaining our weight. We look forward to helping you with this goal.

Rally for the Cure at Aspen Athletic Clubs!
Join us Friday, October 16 and Rally for the Cure!
Enjoy tennis as you rally to fight breast cancer and then stay for refreshments, goodie bags and the chance to win fabulous prizes in our raffle. A fun evening for a great cause!
A woman has a 1 in 8 risk of developing breast cancer in her lifetime. That is 1 out of 8 mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, neighbors, co-workers and community members. When breast cancer is detected early, the five year survival rate is 98%. Although the Rally raises funds to support research, the message is the important thing. The Rally event's focus is education, awareness and early detection.
This year our Rally's Honorary Guests are Julie Clausen and Peggy Scott, both Aspen members and tennis players and are breast cancer survivors.
Sign up sheet is at the front desk at the Hickman Aspen or you may email Lynette Brown at lbrown@aspenathletic.com to register.
