"Peppy thank you so much for your editorial about children living what they learn.  I am a single mother of five and have felt like a fish out of water since my kids' father left a few years ago.

Raising these kids on my own and finding time to take care of myself seems impossible but your words have inspired me to make the time for myself.

Thanks for all you do and I look forward to meeting you one day."

Thanks for your kind expressions and conversations with me as I continue to send my editorials which are from the heart.  For all the mothers out there who are struggling with raising their children; stay strong.  For all the fathers out there who are also finding parenting challenging; you are not alone.  The African proverb "it takes a village to raise a child" is to be taken very seriously, especially during April as we continue to protect our children from child abuse and neglect.

Spring and the 2nd quarter of 2011 are here!  The weather has been somewhat like a yo-yo but brighter and sunnier days are ahead (I mean that literally and figuratively).  Time is flying so fast that the 2nd quarter sneaked up on me to the point of me almost losing my balance, but it is now two weeks into April and I am feeling great and looking forward to the next few months.

Many of us are still making resolutions. There is nothing wrong with that, as there is no law which says resolutions HAVE to be made at the beginning of a year.  In fact, the turn of a new season and the second quarter are perfect times to revisit those goals you set earlier in the year or make new ones.  Before you know it, we will be in the 3rd Quarter and you will be asking "where did 6 months go?" For those of you who, like me, are observing Lent; you may be happy to know that it is almost over.  Now, I have to admit that the period of observing Lent and avoiding certain things has been very good for me.  I actually do not miss anything I gave up, and can keep on this path for many more months.  That is the great thing about cultivating good habits and being disciplined -- it does wonders for your mind, body, and spirit and it proves that you CAN do it if you really want to.

With Spring comes the need to expose body parts that were covered in the Winter, and I can tell you that this week when the sun was shining, I saw more body parts than I wanted to...Boo to all of those people who overdid it to the point of being downright nasty!  On a healthier note, this is the perfect time to whip yourself back into shape by doing a variety of outdoor activities.  I am looking forward to outdoor running, hiking and getting back on the tennis court.  I also recently restarted my MEET ME ON THE MAT pilates/yoga sessions so if you live in the Washington DC area, link me so you can meet me and others on the mat in various parks, on decks, and indoors when the sun is too hot.  Spring is such a beautiful season, so my wish is that you enjoy it despite the allergies that come with it.

Happy birthday to everyone celebrating this week including the wonderful Ichelle Cole of Strykers Posse Reggae Band.  Meet Ichelle and the crew to celebrate at The 13th Floor in Baltimore, MD tomorrow night!

Our very special guest for pepisode #10 was Dr. Claire Nelson, founder of the Institute of Caribbean Studies and Renaissance woman.

In less than an hour of uploading this pepisode, we received many comments and the general consensus is that the good doctor deserves all the medals and honors she has received so far.  We concur!

Very many thanks to

Fitness Tip of the Week
There has been much debate about whether muscle weighs more than fat.  Some say YES because muscle is 70% water and a heavier tissue than fat and some say NO because a pound is a pound is a pound.  One thing we can all agree on - MUSCLE IS MUCH SEXIER THAN FAT!   Now that we have gotten that out of the way, I know some of you get bent out of "shape" after working out, and your favorite thing to do is to jump on the scale...I am not giving much advice on "weighing in" except - If you must use a scale on the regular, ensure that it is the same scale you use each time.  Instead of freaking out thinking you are not losing the weight based on the scale, measure your success in other ways:
*  Look how your clothes fit
*  Check out how you look
*  Measure your inches
*  Check your posture
*  Look for definitions in your body
*  Watch your energy level
*  Check for flexibility
If you are working out consistently and eating healthy, the scale will no longer be your worst enemy.  Do not be discouraged, you are doing GREAT - make fitness a lifetime goal!

When all else fails, contact me to find out how you can be a part of MEET ME ON THE MAT -- pilates and yoga for everybody and every body.
