CONNIE CAMPBELL STILL NEEDS YOUR HELP

CONNIE

Connie Campbell is one of Jamaica's most used backup singers for studio recordings and live performances. She has worked with countless artists including Tarrus Riley, Sizzla, Shaggy, Luciano, and Diana King.

On August 23, 2009 Conradine 'Connie' Campbell, had a seizure minutes before hitting the stage (while on tour) at the Crossroads Entertainment Complex in Maryland .

Connie suffered a "Brainstem Stroke" and now has "locked in syndrome." The prognosis is guarded due to quadriplegia from brainstem cva. Favorable factors are her young age, good family and friends support and possible ability to comprehend and follow directions for rehabilitation.

She is NOT in a coma and is able to open her eyes when her name is called and many times is able to follow commands to move her eyes in tracking objects as directed by physician.

She will need extensive and prolonged therapy over 6-9 months. Therapy has not yet been started.

Please visit the Facebook Page, "Help Connie Campbell Get Therapy" and do your part in helping Connie Campbell.  You may also email conn.camp@gmail.com or contact Ace at 404-933-4864.

Please stay tuned for information regarding a benefit concert which will be held in the DMV area to raise funds for Connie.

For sales occurring after November 6, 2009, the Act establishes income limits of $125,000 for single taxpayers and $225,000 for married couples filing joint returns.

The income limits for sales occurring on or after January 1, 2009 and on or before November 6, 2009, are $75,000 for single taxpayers and $150,000 for married taxpayers filing joint returns.

So, I decided to squeeze one more in and give you this newsletter a day earlier on this final day of March in celebration of WOMEN.  We are not ones to follow traditional rules so please believe that we will continue to highlight women whenever we feel like it.  March is just another month - good women should be celebrated everyday!

I know I promised that you would be inspired by Dr. Stephany McGann's story this week, but the good doctor has been working overtime and all the pieces are not in the right places yet, so stay tuned!  This week, I present to you Pele Chen who overcame a divorce and became stronger in more ways than one, and Canadian born Tasha T who has been wowing people with her beautiful voice since age fourteen.

Give thanks for the positive feedback on Connie Campbell and Dr. Claire Nelson who were featured last week.  Connie still needs your help, so I have posted her information again this week.  Dr. Nelson will be happy to hear directly from YOU.  My goal is to be the avenue that connects you with these remarkable individuals - not to make the actual connections for you.  Please reach out to anyone who is featured and speak to them directly. I am sure you will agree that I should not be robbing you of your independence by doing all the work for you.  If you are really serious about networking, make that call or send that email to "Person X" who will be more than happy to hear from you.

So here we are approaching April, the second quarter of 2010 and Easter.  I am very excited that Spring is in the air, but my allergies are saying something else.  I did not make too many resolutions this year, but there is this ONE thing I really, really, really want to get accomplished in this second quarter.  Fingers, toes, and locs are crossed and I am working hard to deal with that.  If you are sailing in a boat that looks a lot like mine, I hope you understand that the little engine that could, eventually WILL.  Keep pushing because hard work does pay off.  On the Easter tip, I wish I was back home to eat some serious bun and cheese and fried fish, and celebrate the Easter season from Thursday until next Monday; but since there are no days off on THIS end, I shall make the best of it and improvise (thanks for the tip, Pele Chen).

I wish you a great spring season, a super duper second quarter and a happy Easter.

HOW PELE CHEN OVERCAME A DIVORCE AND EMERGED A STRONGER WOMAN

PELECHEN
Rosemarie "Pele" Chen is a licensed Massage Therapist and Forrest-Style Yoga Instructor. Pele is licensed through Florida College of Natural Health for massage in 2002 and Jessica "Unmani" King for yoga certification in 2006.

This is Pele's story:
"Eight years ago I experienced divorce. This made me really think hard about my career and life. I decided to become a massage therapist because I thought I could work for myself and make everyone my client. I did not want to work for just one person. While giving massages my body started to hurt. My shoulders, neck, hands, hips, knees, back etc. and then my massage teacher, Jessica "Unmani" King invited me to her yoga class. This was the beginning of the end of suffering for me. I saw my body heal, become stronger, more flexible, with more stamina and stronger lungs, with longer breath! Healing my asthma, cold symptoms, menstrual cramps, headaches, etc. and then I changed my diet too, only after suffering for years with irritable bowel syndrome!

After becoming a raw vegan for 10 months and seeing how my body completely shifted from scrawny and weak to muscular and strong, I decided to become a yoga teacher. My body has never been stronger. I do not and have not taken any over-the-counter or prescription drugs for regular daily ailments for the past 6 years, mainly because I have none of these ailments anymore. Otherwise, I find healthy, natural ways to heal, or I just wait and it will pass."

Even though Pele's yoga postures will make you say "How did she DO that?" or "I cannot possible do that," she has produced a yoga DVD for beginners. The DVD is useful for everyone and will give you a sweat and make you feel truly invigorated. To order the DVD and learn more about Pele, visit www.naturallyhealinginc.com.

TASHA T:  DELIGHTING AUDIENCES WITH REGGAE SONGS

tashat

Since her remarkable debut at the tender age of fourteen, Toronto-born artist Tasha T has been delighting audiences in Canada, the US and Jamaica. Getting her early inspiration from Reggae music stalwarts like Phyllis Dillon, Judy Mowatt and Marcia Griffiths, the pre-teen Miss T would also watch and listen to the DJs/selectors on her step-father's "sound system" - Road Block International - in Toronto, Canada.

Out of this experience Tasha soon developed her own unique singing/DJ (Sing-Jay) style which would later see her capturing multiple awards, among them;Best Female Newcomer' in 1999 and 'Best Dancehall Female' in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2007 and 2008, a year in which she also won top song writer from the Reggae Music Achievement Awards (RMAA). She has also received a nomination for 'Best Reggae Recording' from the Juno Awards year 2000 - Canada's equivalent to the Grammy's.

With a discography that stretches back to the 1990s, Tasha's longevity can only be explained by her dedication, versatility and creativity. From chart toppers like the Reggae classic "Win or Lose" to the latest "Hold Me" which stayed in the Canadian Reggae charts for 6 months. The video for this song also won the single of the year award from the Reggae Music Achievement Awards (RMAA). Tasha T also hit the charts in Ghana, West Africa with her most recent single 2009, a cover of George Michael's "One More Try" at # 5 and climbing. She is phenomenal

APRIL IS NATIONAL CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH

childabuse
Child abuse and neglect often takes place in the home and comes from a person the child knows well-a parent, relative, babysitter, or friend of the family. There are four major types of child maltreatment:
  • Neglect is failure to provide for a child's basic needs.
  • Physical abuse is physical injury as a result of hitting, kicking, shaking, burning, or otherwise harming a child.
  • Sexual abuse is any situation where a child is used for sexual gratification. This may include indecent exposure, fondling, rape, or commercial exploitation through prostitution or the production of pornographic materials.
  • Emotional abuse is any pattern of behavior that impairs a child's emotional development or sense of self-worth, including constant criticism, threats, and rejection.
Do you part in helping a child if you suspect child abuse.  Call 202-671-SAFE (7233), your local social services agency, or 911 in emergency cases!
