It seems like just yesterday when I connected with you, but it was in fact about 5 days ago. So much has happened and is happening that I feel the need to reach out and speak to you briefly before we look around and February is over!
This past weekend, I attended a Haitian fundraiser called "The Awakening" that made me wake up and really understand how much Haiti needs our help. Without getting too much into it,
Haiti really needs our collective help! You do not need to take MY word for it, but you do have to really pay close attention to what mainstream media is telling us versus what folks who have actually gone to Haiti since the earthquake have witnessed.
Especially during Black History month, the history of Haiti is not to be overlooked or taken lightly. If I sound like a Jam-Haitian (Jamay-Shan) it is because this is less about nationality and more about Blacks helping Blacks. I implore you to take the time to gather some historical facts on Haiti and I guarantee that you will also wake up and understand that saving our brothers and sisters in Haiti is our lifetime mission!
This Thursday, myself,
Movementunes.com and a number of sponsors in the area will come together to host
Hope for Haiti/To Haiti With Love at LIV, 1201 11th Street, NW, DC and we need your support. We are not so naive or presumptuous to ask you to
not consider attending other fundraisers happening on the same day or to drop everything and attend our event, but we do need your support and we are not shy or scared to ask for it! We are aware that like us, you may have already donated to Haiti or attended other fundraisers. We know that, like us, you WANT to help Haiti so we need you to understand that your support does not need to be monetary. As long as you donate your eyes, ears and hearts and pay close attention to what is happening and what has happened in Haiti, I am happy.
On the other hand, if you
are considering supporting
our event this Thursday, we welcome money or in-kind donations. You can choose to attend the event and donate what you can at the door, make a donation online, or spread the word so someone else will come out and be there to witness what we promise to be a NECESSARY event! You can also ask your network to donate to
our picks:
Brothers and Sisters International or
NOAH's Tent for Haiti Project. Information on our event is below and you can always get the flier and tickets right
HERE.
As you continue to celebrate Black History month, keep Haiti in your prayers. Think of ways you can reach out and touch at least one person in Haiti through your selfless giving and understand that we are our brothers' keepers.
