January 20, 2010 Hope for Haiti!
Money, machines, miracles and manpower needed!

haitiflagFamily:

It is hard to concentrate on much else these days when our hearts are on Haiti.  200,000 presumed dead, 250,000 injured and 1.5 million homeless!  Word just in is that ANOTHER earthquake hit Haiti about 3am this morning measuring 6.1...

The images from the original earthquake are getting even more disturbing but like most of you, I am drawn to the television like magnet to steel.   Images of dead bodies are now the "norm" but I keep watching to glimpse those rare stories of survival.  Each time I see a story of someone who survived - like that little 18 month old girl who was rescued by the Australian team; the 53 orphans who were taken to Pittsburgh for medical care and adoption; or the 36-year old nurse who was rescued after 5 days;  my heart does a little happy dance!  Yet, despite the  lives that are being saved even after one week of no food and water, so many more are losing their lives because help has not gotten to them in time.  (Click on the Haitian flag above to read some of the survival stories).

Yesterday, I was listening to "Democracy Now" with Amy Goodman who was reporting live from Haiti and the stories she was reporting made me want to just grab the UN and shake some sense into them!  What is this about them having to go into areas with "security" when people all around are dying?  On Sunday, I spent most of the day watching CNN and despite how effective Anderson Cooper is at reporting, I kept wondering why he had no translator so we could hear the voice of the Haitians who are the ones suffering.

wyclefMany of you have heard that they are investigating Wyclef and his Yele non-profit.  As Wyclef stated, "My dad always told me, if you're a man with a clear conscience, speak with a clear conscience and the world will know," he said. "Have we made mistakes before? Yes. Did I ever use Yele money for personal benefit? Absolutely not."  Personally, I have donated my $5 to Yele and $10 to Red Cross...I wish I could take back from Red Cross and give to Yele because as far as I am concerned, Wyclef is Haitian so his heart is in the right place!

Anyway, bottom line is that we all need to keep praying and donate to organizations that are on the ground in Haiti helping the Haitians.  This is the time for solidarity and selflessness!  Right now, Haiti is in chaos with health and sanitation problems, a bottleneck of planes at the airport, supplies getting to Haiti, and managing the effects of the earthquake, so monetary donations is what they need most.

I have tons of links below on how many around the world are helping Haiti.  Take the time to check all the links and keep praying for Haiti!

HELP For Haiti Around the World!

soldiersJAMAICA
(S0urce:  Jamaica Gleaner, 1/19/10)

With the country bracing for an influx of Haitians fleeing their earthquake-hit country, a corporate entity is helping.

Digicel Business has committed a total of $500,000 to be donated to the Department of Correctional Services in Jamaica.

The company will donate $300,000 in cash and $200,000 in Grace-Kennedy food vouchers to further assist with all relief efforts.

Information from Digicel is that the funds will be used for repairs to buildings and property located in the island to house refugees, as well as to provide medical care.

Mark Linehan, CEO Digicel Jamaica, said the company, which operates one of the largest telecommunications  businesses in Haiti, has been integral in bringing relief to Haiti.

"When Digicel launched in Haiti in 2006, Haitians welcomed us with open arms. Now, with over two million customers relying on Digicel to keep in touch with friends and family, we are determined to be there for them in their time of need," he said.

senegalSenegal Offers Land To Haitians!

Senegal's president says he will offer free land and "repatriation" to people affected by the earthquake in Haiti.

President Abdoulaye Wade said Haitians were sons and daughters of Africa since Haiti was founded by slaves, including some thought to be from Senegal.

"The president is offering voluntary repatriation to any Haitian that wants to return to their origin," said Mr Wade's spokesman, Mamadou Bemba Ndiaye.

Tuesday's earthquake killed tens of thousands and left many more homeless.
