Your chance to hear and meet Denyse Schmidt, Jennifer Chiaverini and Mark Lipinski in the heart of New York City is just around the corner. The second Quilters Take Manhattan event takes place Saturday, September 15 from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Treat yourself to an exciting day of inspiration, learning, prizes, samples, a silent auction and (yes!) gorgeous quilts while supporting the community you love. The event is a benefit for the Quilt Alliance, documenting, preserving and sharing the history of quilts and their makers since 1993. Visit the Alliance website to find out more and purchase your tickets today.

Quilts!
Event attendees will also see quilts! Denyse Schmidt will exhibit quilts included in her new book (pictured above) and we'll show the 2012 "Home Is Where the Quilt Is" contest quilts -- half at FIT and other half at The City Quilter. Don't miss a chance to preview these unique house-shaped quilts before the November eBay auction. Contest quilts by Margarita Korioth, Jamie Fingal, Joyce Hughes and the Broadway Gentlemen's Quilting Auxiliary pictured below, left to right.

Play!
That evening. after the FIT event we will travel to W. 38th Street to the cozy yet sophisticated studio and home of Alliance board member Victoria Findlay Wolfe for Quilters Take Manhattan After Dark. This event is all about play! We'll use Victoria's 15 Minutes of Play method as inspiration to create a group quilt that will be auctioned to benefit the Alliance in November. Serenading us will be Alan Jabbour, old-time fiddler extraordinaire and founder of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress and longtime board member and former President of the Quilt Alliance. Join us to play, sip wine, nibble appetizers, mingle with our event speakers and celebrate quilts and quiltmakers!
