 Play!

QTM After Dark graphic That evening. after the FIT event we will travel to W. 38th Street to the cozy yet sophisticated studio and home of Alliance board member Victoria Findlay Wolfe for Quilters Take Manhattan After Dark. This  event is all about play! We'll use Victoria's 15 Minutes of Play method as inspiration to create a group quilt that will be auctioned to benefit the Alliance in November. Serenading us will be Alan Jabbour, old-time fiddler extraordinaire and founder of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress and longtime board member and former President of the Quilt Alliance. Join us to play, sip wine, nibble appetizers, mingle with our event speakers and celebrate quilts and quiltmakers!

Omaha--taken!

 Quilters Take Omaha logo

The Quilters Take Omaha event on August 3 was a big success thanks to our sponsors and hosts at AccuQuilt and all those who attended or sent in contributions.

QSOS interview with Linda PumphreyLongtime board member Linda Pumphrey (left), Global Sales Manager for AccuQuilt, was honored at the August 3 fundraising event held in conjunction with an Alliance board meeting held on the same day. A highlight of the event was a Quilters' S.O.S. - Save Our Stories (Q.S.O.S.) interview with Pumphrey conducted by founding Alliance board member Merikay Waldvogel (right).

A new Alliance oral history initiative, "Go Tell It at the Quilt Show", was also demonstrated at the event by several interviewees. Steve Nabity shared the story of a quilt made for his daughter Cara, who died of a rare, lifelong heart condition in 2003.

Happy Weekend, everyone!

The quilt above titled "Beacons of Home" was featured on the Quilt Index's Facebook page on Tuesday to commemorate the birthday of Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise, Princess Royal of England. Princess Anne has an interest in pharology, the study of lighthouses, and as a patron of the Northern Lighthouse Board, has visited each of Scotland's 215 lighthouses.

The Lighthouse sampler above was created by Carol A. Hare of Saginaw, Michigan in 1999. The hand appliqued, embroidered and quilted piece was a gift for Hare's brother. "The lighthouses represent places in which my brother has lived or worked around the U.S. and Canada and come to from his travels."

Here's to enjoying the last days of summer!
