Welcome "Home" to Our First 2012 Contest Entry!

first Home contest entry
"The Piece Maker's Child" by Patricia Hobbs

We are pleased to announce that the first entry for our 2012 quilt contest "Home Is Where the Quilt Is" has just come in the door!
Patricia Hobbs of Macomb, Illinois is the first entrant in our 6th annual quilt contest--
"Home Is Where the Quilt Is," a celebration of the form and the meaning of Home.

From Pat's artist's statement: ..."The actual quilts found within are the acts of kindness, love, and dedication to the family. "Blessed are the child of the piece makers, for they shall inherit the quilts."

We've shared a few other "Home" contest quilt entries in progress on Facebook. Here's a peak at those entries in progress (especially for those faces not on Facebook):

Below left: entry on its way by Betty Pillsbury of Huntersland, New York (a fairy house in a tree); and right: entry in progress by Joan Stake Sheridan of Boyce, Virginia (miniature flying
geese strips!)

Quiltmaking legend Yvonne Porcella, along with many of you dedicated members, has made at least one quilt for each of our five previous contests. The Grand Prize this year will be judged by a panel of professional quilters/designers and we're proud to again partner with
Handi Quilter
to award the Grand Prize winner's choice of any of the Handi Quilter machine quilting systems. Our members will again be called upon to select Member's Choice awards with fabulous prizes donated by our generous AAQ Business Members. We'll present audio artist's statements again this year
thanks to our partners at VoiceQuilt. and the quilts will be exhibited nationally thanks to the Original Sewing & Quilt Expo and Maine Quilts. It takes an Alliance and we hope you'll join us!
